Frederick E. Ferguson
     Ottawa -- Memorial services for Frederick E. Ferguson, 87, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. He was cremated.
     Mr. Ferguson died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence.
     He was born May 19, 1922, in Ottawa, the son of Chester and Flossie Hume Ferguson. He was a lifelong resident of Ottawa, born in the house on the farm north of town where he lived his entire life.
     Mr. Ferguson graduated from Ottawa High School in 1942. He worked for Warner Brothers, Union Gas and Ottawa Co-op. He was manager of Richmond Co-op, Lawrence North Elevator and assistant manager of Edgerton Co-op. He also farmed throughout his life, including a large hog farm operation, retiring in the late 1990s.
     He was a Franklin County Commissioner from 2000 through 2004 and was a founding member of Franklin 5 Water District, where he served on the board as secretary/treasurer for 36 years.
     Mr. Ferguson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; Odd Fellows Lodge, holding each office during his membership; Ottawa Lodge No. 803; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, also holding each office during his membership; Ottawa Bowling Association; Franklin County Farm Bureau; and Chippewa Good Sams Camping Club.
     He married Sheila Eoff on June 9, 1943, in Ottawa. She died March 20, 2000. He married Phyllis Staadt-Curtis on May 5, 2001, in Ottawa. She survives, of the home.
     Other survivors include a son, Terry, Ottawa; three daughters, Judy Fabert and husband Bud, Peggy Streebin and husband Mike, and Shari Williams and husband Steve, all of Ottawa; a stepson, Phil Curtis, Colorado; a stepdaughter, Ze Griffeths, Texas; a twin sister, Florence Staadt, Aurora, Colo.; seven grandsons, Ryan Weidner, Corey and Jason Manczuk, Brian Ferguson, Mark and Kevin Bortzer, and Joshua Streebin; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ferguson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Charles.
     The family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
     The family suggests memorials to the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
