Being that Robert Mackay Sr.'s family as well as Isaac Steer & Hattill Varman's families (these two discussed more fully in The Steer Genealogy section) and some of the other families inter-married with these families have Quaker backgrounds I have some links to Society of Friends websites below as well.

Some of the websites linked here have Robert Mackay Sr. as being the son of a Capt. Hugh Mackay and Jane Dunbar. This information can be found in the LDS genealogy computer bank. However it hasn't been successfully proven that he is the son of the above mentioned couple and based on the information I've seen it doesn't appear likely that he is. At this time we do not know Robert Mackay Sr.'s true parentage.
