John O. "Red" Reason
John O. "Red" Reason, of Toledo, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, March 4, 2007, in Naples, Florida. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, March 1, 1929, the son of John M. Reason and Mildred Kimple Reason.
John lived his entire life in the Toledo area and graduated from Devilbiss High School in 1947. He spent four years in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Seoul, Korea during the Korean conflict. John enjoyed his boyhood days living south of Dorr Street on Upton Avenue, Evesham Avenue and Parkside Boulevard. Many People remember a life sized stone dog that "stood guard" in the front yard of the George Qualman residence located on the southeast corner of Parkside Boulevard and Dorr Street. John and his brother Tuffy often played on this dog. John's father purchased the dog at an estate sale. When his father died John became the dog's owner and the proud stone canine kept his vigil at two of John's residences. He worked 44 years for the Columbia Gas Company and held a number of positions. A family cottage at Devil's Lake, Michigan was named the "4 Good Reason's". John loved sailing his Nipper sailboat. He made many friends at the lake and especially enjoyed the Sandy Beach area.
After his first wife died he met Dorothy whom he married in 2001 and the two of them spent the winters in Naples, Florida. Family and church were very important to John. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church at Oakwood and Upton. Pastor Ewald Berger was a memorable spiritual leader for John and the entire Reason family. Later John became a member of All-Saints Lutheran Church on Heatherdowns Boulevard where he volunteered many hours serving special Saturday morning breakfasts and working on church projects.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Rosendaul Reason in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Jeff (Pete) Reason and Jaymie (Sonia) Reason; three grandchildren, Jacob, Holly, and Joy, one great- granddaughter, Emma; one nephew, Casey Reason, and his brother, Tuffy (Jan) Reason; step children, Janet (David) Quick, Dick (Connie) Ostrosky, Joni (Mike) Braithwaite, Tim (Diane) Ostrosky, Chris Ostrosky, Fred (Cristy) Ostrosky and Mark (Veronica) Ostrosky; as well as many step grandchildren.
