McKay Exhibit
At Warren Rifles

     Warren Rifles Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy have put together an exhibit on the McKay family, Warren County's first family in conjunction with the Festival of Leaves.
     Among the displayed items in the main assembly room in the Confederate Museum on Chester Street, upstairs are a copy of Robert McKay's will and a reproduction of the first land grant, circa 1731, giving the McKays lands in the Cedarville and South River areas.
     There is a compilation of the original Fairfax suit researched and gathered here and in England by the late Hunter McKay.
     In addition, there are a plat of the Nineveh church graveyard where the McKays are buried, pictures of six generations of McKays, personal articles and historical facts about the family.
     Working on the extensive exhibit has been William Barbee, Isabelle McKay Hicks and Lucille Silman Wood.

McKay Family Display at Confederate Museum-Front Royal- note the pistol in front of case- It is Navy Colt- ball and percussion 1850 model with original serial number. It was picked up at kitchen door of the old McKay Home by Robert McKay after a battle was over around the home. He was eleven or twelve years old at the time. It was kept in the family and given to Perry D. Mowbray by Mrs. Charles R. McKay, and was lent to the Museum for this display.
