Colletts-McKays meet for 114th picnic

Nearly 200 members of the Collett and McKay families and their guests shared visiting, reminiscing, and fellowship recently at the family picnic grounds on Gurneyville and Inwood Roads.
The wooded setting was appreciated especially since last year's picnic had to be in the Kingman School gymnasium as a result of the rain.
In spite of the hot weather, the shade of the maple trees and the cool breezes contributed to the very pleasant day. Several of the men living in the vicinity had prepared the grounds and set up the tables on Friday.
Wilbur McKay asked the Rev. Dennis Dinger of the Sharon-Zoar charge to return thanks preceding the basket dinner.
The pictures, clippings, and documents pertaining to the two families whose history in this country began many years ago were of special interest. They covered two of the long tables the boards of which belong to the picnic and were purchased in 1879.
Mrs. John Becker II (Kathryn Hackney) is preparing the McKay family tree and McKays and McKay descendants were asked to add the information pertaining to their families.
Colletts and Collett descendants were asked to add any new members to the Collett family tree which had been prepared by the late Howard Collett several years ago.
Bryan and Brent, four-month-old twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sykes, grandsons of Mr. and Mrs. Richard McKay, and great-grandsons of Mrs. Albert McKay, attracted much attention.
Children especially (and some adults, too) were interested in the four-footed guests--Harley, a huge beautiful black Great Dane, and a lovable blonde Cocker Spaniel. The latter came all the way from New York.
Several family groups gathered for the evening meal at a near-by home or for a Sunday get-together.
Those attending the picnic from states other than Ohio were as follows: McKay Collett of Westbury, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Haigh, of New York City and Huddershed, England; the Rev. Samuel E. (Gene) Collett and Mrs. Collett of Chula Vista, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fabian, Chad, and Veronica Ryan of Des Plaines, Ill.; Mrs. Brenda Collett Stephens and son Todd H. Stephens, of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. David Ames, Robert P. Ames and Jennifer K. Ames of Manhattan, Kan.; Dr. and Mrs. D. Howard Doster, Miss Susan E. Doster, and Miss Anne M. Doster, all of West Lafayette, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. David Doster, of Troy, Mich.; Mrs. Fred Ames, of Arcadia, Fla.; Miss Cora L. Collett, of Wilmington, Del.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thomas Collette and son Daniel McKay Collette X, of Tallahassee, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Everett L. Baugh of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Baugh, Miss Adele Baugh, Steve Baugh, and James Baugh, of Rochester, Mich.; and Mrs. Mary Browning VandenBerg, of Grand Rapids, Mich.
