Collets-McKays Meet At 105th Annual Picnic
Saturday was a beautiful day for a picnic, and nearly 200 Colletts and McKays gathered in the four-acre maple grove owned by the two families to enjoy the day and each other.
The long tables (the boards were purchased in 1879) had been set up on Friday. They were soon filled with all kinds of delicious food.
A fire was built under the big iron kettle by Mr. Warren Kester and coffee was made by Mrs. Lester Stanfield and Mr. Richard Baugh.
All were curious and the older members were reminded of picnics of long ago as they watched a beautiful horse pulling a buggy approach the grounds. In the buggy were two passengers, a very attractive young girl and a handsome young man. They were Miss Gwen Bogan, Wilmington, and her cousin, Mr. Steven Lafferty of Fairborn, coming to the picnic.
Mr. Lafferty went on with his family at the end of the day and riding home with Miss Gwen was her nephew, five-year-old Eric, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bogan of Wilmington.
After the Rev. R. David Harper, of the Sharon United Methodist Charge, led the group in prayer, all enjoyed the basket dinner. During the afternoon members and guests visited with relatives and friends, many of whom they hadn't seen since last year's reunion, and examined the contents of the table on which were spread pictures and accounts of former picnics, family histories, etc.
A special attraction were the seven-month-old twins, Rhondah Lee and Rene Lynn, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Hackney of Bowersville.
Those attending from states other than Ohio were Mr. and Mrs. Roger A. Lafferty, Greg and Brad of Providence, R.I.; Mrs. Lucy McGannon of Pautucket, R.I.; Mrs. Lafferty's mother; Mr. and Mrs. Brian Magee, Beltsville, Md.; Mr. David Ames of Manhattan, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. D. Howard Doster, Dave, Dan, Susan, and Ann, West LaFayette, Ind.; Miss Karen Magee of Sheboygan, Wisc.; and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis H. Rowsey, Huntington, W. Va.

Collett-McKay
The 105th Collett-McKay reunion will take place Saturday at the picnic grounds, Gurneyville and Inwood Rds. Things start in the morning, basket dinner is at noon and go on through the afternoon.
The Collett-McKay picnic is a fixture in these parts and widely known because of the amazing fact of having been held regularly for more than a century and because, also, it attracts an enormous number of persons.
