Collett-McKay Families Hold 99th Reunion
For 98 years members of the Collett-McKay family connection and friends have been holding the second Saturday in August free to attend the annual picnic.
The 99th reunion was Saturday and took place as usual in the grounds dedicated to the families for their reunions. Two hundred persons were present.
Ages ranged from a year to the 90s but everyone enjoyed the day under the spreading trees which make a delightful place for the event. The wooded area at the junction of Inwood and Gurneyville Rds. on the Bernard McKay land is marked by two brick posts bearing bronze plaques denoting the purpose of the plot of ground.
There are never planned programs, never invitations announcing the event. The date is remembered. Thus far, the picnic has never been rained out. Once or twice the noon dinner, (always spectacular in its variety of foods), has been served a little early or a little late to miss a threat of rain.
There are persons there from numerous states who come especially for the reunion and some who have attended almost every reunion for more than 60 or 70 years. Mr. John Browning of Washington C. H., in his 90s, told Saturday about the time little family meetings were held when the suggestion was made that they become a regular thing. That was of course before his time as it was almost a hundred years ago, but he heard the tale when a boy. Another young bride of 60 years ago has hardly missed one single reunion.
Now, the Colletts and McKays and friends are looking forward to the 100th reunion.

The ninety-ninth Collett-McKay family reunion dinner was held, Aug. 14 at the family picnic grounds near New Burlington. About 200 persons were present for the event.
A family spokesman said that special plans will be made for a centennial next year.
