I Remember: 25 Years Ago

AUGUST 14, 1934

A light primary vote was being cast in Wilmington and Clinton County today. A total of 538 votes had been cast in the nine precincts at 1 p. m., more than 60 less than that recorded, at the same hour in the May 1932 primary.
Roosevelt to outline plans for farm aid--Answer to critics to AAA's crop reduction program expected in message--Slashing of harvests not necessarily part of plan for control--Watch speculation.
68th annual Collett McKay picnic was held at the picnic grounds on the New Burlington Road, Saturday and the attendance at the 1934 event numbered 294 members and family connections and friends. Not once in 68 years has rain prevented the holding of the picnic.

238 Register at Collett-McKay Family Reunion

Nearly 250 members of the Collett and McKay families attended the 94th annual family reunion Saturday at the picnic grounds which the association owns on the Gurneyville Road. This tract is a part of the military survey No. 2280 which was bought by pioneer Moses McKay Oct. 16, 1810.
As is usually the case on the date of the Collett-McKay reunion, the day was sunny and beautiful, and members of the two families gathered for the noon picnic dinner preceding which the Rev. John Beers Jr. asked grace.
The afternoon was spent by the Colletts and McKays and their friends in pleasant association and the renewing of family ties.
The three counties in which the Colletts and McKays settled, Warren, Greene and Clinton, were well represented. Those from out of these counties came from Cleveland, Columbus, Washington C. H., Springfield, Cincinnati and other cities in the state.
Relatives from out of the state came from Michigan, Lexington, Ky., and Huntington, W. Va.
The register showed 238 persons in attendance.

94th Collett-McKay Annual Picnic Set

The 94th annual Collett-McKay picnic will be held at the usual place on the Collett-McKay picnic grounds on the Gurneyville Rd, Saturday.
The two families always hold an annual reunion about this time of year and it always is a very large affair. It has become a tradition in the community.
