Collett-McKay Families Have Annual Picnic
* * *
The 73rd Collett-McKay picnic was held at the picnic grounds in Chester Township, Saturday. The day was devoted to chatting and visiting with old friends, as there never are any programs at the picnic, election of officers or selecting of a date for the meeting. The families assemble the second Saturday in August, so that all relatives and friends know when and where the affair will be held each year.
During the 73 years, 11,325 persons have attended the picnics. The first picnic was held August 3, 1866, with 111 persons present, the smallest number to attend. The largest number, 542, attended August 11, 1888, and this year 258 were present.
The first picnic was held on the farm of Noah Haines in Warren county, but later moved to the present picnic grounds.
