Collett-McKay Picnic.

The annual Collett-McKay picnic on Saturday, August 12, sustained its unusual record of 56 years without rain on that day, the second Saturday in August, on which it is held annually, in the Daniel M. Collett grove, nine miles below Wilmington.
Nearly 400 relatives representing many states in the Union enjoyed the day. There are no officers, every one volunteering in some active part of making each reunion happily successful. For 30 years the same man has made the coffee.
An interesting thing about this year's reunion was the fact that three methods of travel were represented. One member of the family drove a horse and buggy, and many came in automobiles, while still another made a new record by coming in an airplane. The airplane was piloted by Russell S. Haines.
The story is told that the first automobile caused just as much excitement, or even more, than the first airplane at the Collett-McKay picnic The first member of the family to purchase an automobile did not drive it to the picnic the first year he owned it, fearing he would frighten too many horses.

COLLETT-M'KAY PICNIC HAS
          ESCAPED RAIN 55 YEARS

The 56th annual Collett-McKay picnic will be held at the usual place Saturday, August 12.
The picnic is always held in the same place and is always held the second Saturday in August. An interesting fact about this reunion is that it has never rained on the day of the picnic for the last 55 years. Ed Collett, Horace Collett, B. Y. Collett and Mary Frances McKay have attended every picnic since the plan was inaugurated.
