Collett-McKay Picnic.

There has always been a sameness about the Collett-McKay picnics and the 55th one, held this year, was no exception to that rule.
As usual it did not rain, it was held in the same place it has been held for more than 50 years and as the custom, the second Saturday in August.
There were as usual about the same number of people there this year, more than 300 registering. Several from quite a distance. They make a visit home each year and come at this particular time so they can attend the picnic. All have been loyal and never permit anything to interfere, if it is possible. This year there were pres ent the four who have never missed an anniversary: Edwin S. Collett, Horace W. Collett, B. Y. Collett and Mary Frances McKay.
Hiram Poor, a colored man, was on the job this year, which made the 34th consecutive time he has been present to make the coffee and attend to other things. The coffee is made in two large iron kettles hung from a pole as in "ye olden times."
The enthusiasm shown by the young people and children goes to show that the annual gatherings are certain to be held for years and years.
