Collett-McKay Picnic.

The 52d Collett-McKay picnic was held Saturday at the regular meeting place near New Burlington. While not as large as some years. the attendance was good, a large number of the two clans, with their relatives and connections, gathering to celebrate the annual event. This year marks the hundredth anniversary of the migration of the McKays from Virginia to Ohio, the Colletts having preceded them to this state by six years. The first marriage connecting the two families was that of Jonathan Collett and Sarah McKay in 1823.
The connection is well represented in the military service at the present time, a service flag bearing twenty-two stars being raised at the reunion Saturday. Several of the stars represent members of the Virginia branch of the family. The following young men are those in the service:
     Robert Collett, France.
     Russell Haines, Lake Charles, La.
     Robert Collett, France.
Alvin B. McKay, Camp Lewis, Wash.
John Denny, Paris Island, S. C...
Wilford Cossum, Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Ky.
Charles Frazer, Camp Jackson, S. C.
     Roy Heaston, France.

     Maynard McKay, France.
     Merel Iceley, Camp Funston, Kans.
     Miss Cora McKay, France.
Dr. Ernest C. McKibben, Camp Lewis, Wash.
     Wm. R. Collett, Washington, D. C.
     Stewart Rowe Allen, Atlantic Coast.
     Dean Lutz, Camp Houston, Texas.
     Ernest Lutz, Camp Houston, Texas.
     Elmore McKay, France.
     Herbert McKay, Camp Houston, Texas.
     George McCutchen, Camp Lewis, Wash.
Four were present at the picnic who never missed a reunion: Mrs. Mary Frances McKay, Edwin S. Collett, H. W. Collett and B. Y. Collett.
Two accidents occurred during the day. William Shambaugh's young son fell off a wagon used for hauling water and broke his arm, while Thomas, son of James Collett, fell and inflicted a gash near his eye. Both boys were given medical attention without delay and the latter was able to return to the grounds after having his wound dressed.

Collett-McKay Picnic

Today is the 52nd Collett-McKay picnic, an annual event of much importance to the two prominent families and all their ramifications. It is being held at the same place it has always been held, in Chester Township, on the old Collett farm. Tradition has it that the picnic was never stopped by rain since the first one was held, though of course, some of the events have been the victim of showers.
There are four members of the family in attendance at the picnic to-day who have never missed one of the big days since the first picnic was held more than a half century ago--Ed. Collett, of this city; B. Y. and H. W. Collett, of Chester Township, and Mrs. Mary Frances McKay, of New Burlington.
