The Collett-McKay Picnic

--------------------

On Saturday last the Colletts and McKays met in annual picnic and fraternal greeting.
This meeting marked the thirty-eighth year of the family gathering. For thirty-six years it has been held on the same grounds and always on each recurring second Saturday in August. It is strictly a family gathering with the addidition of a few invited personal friends who always receive a warm welcome and for the day are made members of the family.
There is no set program, no speeches, no brass band; the day is simply given over to social greeting and good fellowship.
The attendance on Saturday was good, not unusually large (about 400) and if President Roosevelt had been there he would have had the bugaboo of race suicide forever driven from his mind, for it was remarked by everyone that they never saw so many children nor such handsome ones at a family gathering.
The dinner which is really the great feature of a picnic was spread on three tables each fifty feet long, and the dinner was a marvel. In a stroll along the table we noted the following menu:
Roast beef, dried beef, fried chicken, pressed chicken, veal rolls, deviled ham, boiled ham, ham sandwiches, beef tongue, boiled eggs, deviled eggs, pickled eggs, Saratoga potatoes, tomato salad, cheese, bread and butter, white bread, brown bread, Uneeda biscuit, peach pie, apple pie, cherry pie, lemon pie, pickles, cucumbers, coffee, tea, fruits, apples, peaches, pears, plums, grapes, candies and cakes, ad infinitum.
