[Home] [Robert Mackay Clan Links and Information] [The Collett-McKay Picnic] [Some Collett Family History]Introductory LetterFrom Howard Doster to Wallace Collett. Wallace Collett, Enclosed find the following:
I plan to make copies of these papers and distribute a few on the table at the upcoming Collett-McKay picnic. What comments should I make about them? Better, what comments do you want to make about them? Another question- What is your knowledge of a Collett scholarship at Dennison University? Who started it? Who has used it? My only information is that a number of Ann Collett McCune's children went to Dennison as did my Aunt Ann Doster Cossum, and, for a short time, my Uncle Charles Doster and my father, William Doster. Aunt Ann's daughter, Jean Cossum Clever told me she was aware of it, and even used it for summer school while she was teaching high school French. It was not much money, but it was there. Assuming the English Collets are our ancestors, I am really impressed by the number with college degrees, ditto for Wabash and perhaps Dennison. Now, I wonder how we can find more information about the 4 or so generations between John Collett, Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and Daniel who came to Clinton County. I think you told me you had found the Collett land north of Winchester, Va. Just where is it? Have you found anything earlier than that? I see a reference in the Ashby paper which says, "In Maryland land records there is record of a survey for Richard Collett of 700 acres, called Collettville, September 15, 1659." This Richard is likely our ancestor, John's brother. Please come visit us the next time you come to Ohio. Russell Hoffer has done a great job remodeling our kitchen using old cherry wood. This spring, he helped us dismantle an old Compton log cabin from near Moses Collett's land east of Roxanna. For free, he's also helping me move the sugar camp shack that is on the land where I grew up on Doster Road now owned by Richard and Kay Faux. Tomorrow, I plan to give him a half-gallon of maple syrup I bought today in Indiana. Sincerely, [Next page]© 1997 steer_family@hotmail.com |
