[Home] [Partial Genealogy Records]William Steer RecordWilliam Steer, died: after 10 5mo 1685; See his Find A Grave entry. William, married: (unknown), These are the webmaster's ancestors. William was a Quaker from Leggacory, Parish of Kilmore, County Armagh, Ireland. Some of the new data in this family record was obtained from a book called "The Calverts Who Were Quakers" by J. Richard Buckey. A Mary Dinah Steer who married: 29 4mo 1793; Edward Mercer, and a William Steere who married: 16 3mo 1794; Hannah Clarke, are listed in this book but their lines of descent are unknown. From Immigration of the Irish Quakers we find "William Steer, a Friend, of County Armagh, Ireland, in the period 1665-1669, for refusing to contribute to the repair of the parish church of Kilmore, 'had Money taken out of his Shop=Box, also a Hat, and other things worth 7s, 2d, and 2s, 2d more demanded had Cloth and Pewter taken from him worth 11s.' Holmes and Fuller, A Brief Relation, etc., William Steer, of Leggacory, Parish of Kilmore, County Antrim, made his last will 10 5mo 1685, and mentions his daughter Hannah, to whom he bequeaths 90, and his only son, Isaac Steer, to whom he leaves 400 and the house and lands that 'I have by lease from my landlord Edward Richardson.' Recorded in Friends' Records of Ulster." (Some new information has just come into my possession regarding the amount of money given to Isaac as listed above. It appears that the 400 figure is an error and that he actually received four score pounds which would be 80.) Issue: Steer
