Susannah Brown Record

Susannah Brown, born: 29 6mo 1771; died: 7 3mo 1847; Paris, TN; Dau. of David Brown and Sarah Hite; Her record with 2nd husband will be listed here until if and when I add records on the Du Bois and Van Meter families.

Susannah, married: Joseph Parkins, Their record continues here.

Susannah, married 2nd: 23 2mo 1804; John Ball, born: 9 11mo 1778; died: 7 10mo 1820; Son of Farling and Mary Ball;

According to Hinshaw's Quaker records John was "granted a certificate to" Crooked Run MM on 28 10mo 1797 to marry Susannah Parkins. Hinshaw states that the marriage certificate from Crooked Run MM is missing from their records. Also, from Hinshaw's records & Hopewell Friends, Susannah (wife of John Ball), & her three chn. by first husband Joseph, Sarah, Maria, & Alfred, were "granted a certificate to" Fairfax MM on 31 5mo 1806 and they were "recieved on certificate from" Crooked Run MM into Fairfax MM on 23 8mo 1806. John & Susannah & 3 minor chn. Eliza, Joseph Parkins, & William James were "granted a certificate to" Alexandria MM, D.C., on 26 11mo 1817. Hinshaw further states "It is evident that after her marriage to John Ball in 1797, Susannah retained her membership in Crooked Run MM, Va., until 31 5mo 1806, although she doubtless had removed to Fairfax Mtg's verge soon after her 2nd marriage in 1797; this, however, is not proven". Elizabeth H., & Phebe Ellen Ball, were "recieved by request of" their parents on 27 2mo 1808.

There is obviously an error somewhere and I believe it is in Hinshaw's record concerning the marriage date for Susannah Brown and John Ball. All the other data on this file and the one with her 1st husband Joseph Parkins seem to reflect that.
