Samuel and his brother Giles managed a tannery in Andrews, NC, that was built by his father Franklin Pierce Cover in 1900. It was known as F. P. Cover & Sons Tannery.

Samuel bought a house from a developer named Cozad in 1918. It is now known as the Cozad-Cover house and is operated as a bed and breakfast. See the web site at http://www.coverhousebandb.com/.
