Nathan Parkins Record

Nathan Parkins, born: 4 4mo 1790; Frederick Co. VA; died: 23 7mo 1871; Augusta Co. VA;

Nathan, married: 14 2mo 1816; Sydney Sowers, born: 15 1mo 1789; Frederick (now Clarke Co.) VA; died: 2 1mo 1856; Frederick Co. VA; buried: Hollingsworth, Parkins, Henrys Cem., Frederick Co. (now Winchester City) VA;

According to Hinshaw's Quaker records & Hopewell Friends History, Nathan was 'reported married contrary to discipline' on 4d 7mo 1816 by Hopewell MM. Later Sydney and daughter Elizabeth were 'recieved by request' into Hopewell MM on 8d 3mo 1821. Nathan was disowned for non-attendance and 'adhering to the Separatists' on 2d 8mo 1837 by Hopewell MM. This is most likely referring to the Hicksite schism that took place in the Society of Friends during that time period. According to a handwritten booklet found in the R. E. Griffith collection in the John Handley Library it states that most of this family moved to Augusta Co. VA near Staunton.

All chn. of above were born in Frederick Co. VA.
