[Home] [Partial Genealogy Records]Mary Parkins Hollingsworth RecordMary Parkins Hollingsworth, born: 15 7mo 1809; Frederick Co. VA; died: 23 7mo 1896; buried: Mt. Hebron Cem., Winchester, VA; Mary, married: 15 4mo 1830; near Winchester, VA; Aaron Hackney Griffith, born: 11 3mo 1802; Frederick Co. VA; died: 8 2mo 1877 (Hinshaw says 18 2mo); Frederick Co. VA; buried: Mt. Hebron Cem., Winchester, VA; Son of John Griffith and Rachel Hackney; According to Hinshaw's Quaker records Mary P. and daughters Elizabeth & Hannah were "listed among those who were recieved by request or recieved on certificate after 1828" into Hopewell MM (Orthodox I believe). 1828 is the date of the split between Orthodox Quakers and Hicksite Quakers. Aaron H. was disowned for joining the Orthodox branch on 10 6mo 1830 by Hopewell MM. He was also "condemned for marrying contrary to discipline" by Hopewell MM and accepted the decision on 4 8mo 1830. On 6 8mo 1834 Mary P. and daughters Elizabeth and Hannah were "recieved by request" into Hopewell MM. Aaron H. joined in request for the children. These minutes mentioned previously are somewhat confusing. Hinshaw doesn't say whether if they are Hicksite or Orthodox. I assume that they were recieved into the Orthodox branch due to the fact that Aaron was disowned for joining the Orthodox branch and was later involved in his children's admission into meeting. Aaron H. was "chosen as an overseer in place of John Griffith who resigned" on 3 4mo 1844 of Hopewell MM. He is also listed as "co" on 8 7mo 1847 & 9 5mo 1850 of Hopewell MM. Her P.O.c1890, Winchester, Va. Also, on 7 3mo 1866 an A. H. Griffith "reported loss of horses, hay & harness to amount of $1,200; wood & fencing to amount of $1,100; warps burned $1,100; cloth impressed and stolen $20,000 during the late war." All chn. of above were born in Frederick Co. Va. Issue: Griffith
