Hugh Mackay Connection?
Since there has been many references to our Robert being the son of Hugh Mackay (of Borley) and Jane Dunbar I thought I should include a little bit of information provided by Kate (Hackney) Luby on the subject. She says she has documentation to back up the connection listed below. However, since I do not have the documentation personally I can't post it to his line directly as a definite connection. According to a Wikipedia entry on the Mackays of Borley, Hugh did have a son named Robert who was listed as a merchant in Rotterdam.
The question is could the Robert Mackay (merchant in Rotterdam) be the same person as our Robert Mackay Sr. the Quaker pioneer?
The only 2 things that would resolve such questions is undeniable proof through accurate genealogical records that show that the Robert of Rotterdam was the same person as our Robert Mackay Sr. The other would be Y-DNA matches between known descendants of Hugh Mackay of Borley and descendants of Robert Mackay Sr. Apart from that, this connection as of yet has no real verification.
