James M. McKay, born: ca. 1801; died: 2mo 1842;

James, & Harriet,
(Harriet, had 3 other children: Eliza, born: ca. 1848; - two infant girls. Their father is unknown but could possibly be John William Keiser.)

According to "The Origins of William McKay & Family" by Gerard McKay, Harriet was a slave of James M. McKay and through documents and DNA testing James fathered possibly two children with her.

Issue:

  • William {McKay}, born: 5mo 1839; St. Charles Co. MO; died: 1882; His surname is listed like this because he was born a slave and took on the McKay name when he became free. He used the name "McKee" in some records. DNA testing confirms this connection.
  • Margreth or Margaretha {McKay}, born: ca. 1842; died: 4mo 1852; Her surname is listed like this because she was born a slave. No DNA evidence is available but it's likely James was her father as well.
