Rev Thomas Budd because of his membership in the Society of Friends he was confined for eight years in the Ilchester Jail, where he died 22th 6mo 1670. Dee Ann also writes: The name BUDD is thought to have derived from the Danish word "bud", which signified a messenger, courier or sergeant. The name Boda, undoubtedly a variation of Bud, used as a personal name in England before the Norman conquest. In the Welsh country the word denotes thrift, grain, riches or victory. The Budd family of Somersetshire, England were granted a coat of arms, "Azure, on a chevron between three estoiles or as many lozengers gules."
