Rev Thomas Budd because of his membership in the Society of Friends he was confined for eight years in the Ilchester Jail, where he died 22th 6mo 1670.

The name BUDD is thought to have derived from the Danish word "bud", which signified a messenger, courier or sergeant. The name Boda, undoubtedly a variation of Bud, used as a personal name in England before the Norman conquest. In the Welsh country the word denotes thrift, grain, riches or victory. The Budd family of Somersetshire, England were granted a coat of arms, "Azure, on a chevron between three estoiles or as many lozengers gules." Chrest--A nag's head of a plume of three feathers or an argent."

The L.D.S. library does have for rent several Budd family histories on microfilm. One is a history by Betty Budd Carlisle, L.D.S. 1321027, which brings some of the blood lines down to the present generation. Since my Budd ancestor was the emigrate--Mary Budd, I am really not interested in carrying down the various Budd lines down pass her siblings children's generation. I have consulted the L.D.S/I.G.I. for Somerset, England and New Jersey for the Budd surname.

Their children were born in Kingsbury, England and it was the second generations of Budds who settled in New Jersey.
