Nathaniel "Nat" Sydnor Smith, 89, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Friday, March 2, 2012, in a local nursing facility.

Mr. Smith was born in 1923, in Whitacre, Virginia, the son of the late Nathaniel Leon and Ruth Marie Smith. He was a retired owner and operator of a salvage yard and used car business. He also was a real estate developer and operated a concrete culvert business and Christmas tree farm. He attended First Presbyterian Church and Gainesboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was a former Treasurer and Secretary for the Gainesboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

He was a graduate of Gainesboro High School and Shepherd University. Mr. Smith was a veteran having served in the Merchant Marines.

His wife, Lucille Weaver Smith, preceded him in death in September 2007.

Surviving are his son, Zachary Smith of Winchester, Virginia; daughter, Mitzi Reynolds and her husband, David, of Richmond, Virginia; granddaughter, Mimi Reynolds, of Richmond, Virginia; and his sister, Sara Marie Robertson and husband, Hector of Winchester, Virginia; two nephews, Jimmy and Jason Robertson and niece, Leslie Troxel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Dr. Richard Reifsnyder officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Lucille Weaver Smith, 81, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born in 1926, in Rockingham County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Marvin and Lillian Weaver.

She was an employee with the City of Winchester Treasurer's Office, retiring in 2000 after 33 years of service.

Mrs. Smith was a memtfer of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Winchester Lioness Club, Women's Civic League, Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary and Women of the Moose. She was a former member of Girls Athletic Association and served as a precinct registrar for Frederick County. She volunteered with the Winchester Medical Center.

She received her Bachelors degree from Richmond Professional Institute now known as Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

She married Nathaniel S. Smith in 1954 in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Surviving with her husband, are her son, Zachary W. Smith of Winchester, Virginia; her daughter, Mitzi S. Reynolds and her husband, David, of Richmond; and a granddaughter, Mimi S. Reynolds of Richmond.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Richard W. Reifsnider officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
