Dorothy Riley Givens

Dorothy Bess Dot Riley Givens, 78, of Bluemont, VA, formerly of Boyce, VA died on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Royal Haven Assistant Living in Front Royal, VA after a long battle with Dementia.

Mrs. Givens was born on March 25, 1933 in Gore, VA, a daughter of the late Stanley and Virginia Whitacre Riley. She was a member of the Ebenezer Christian Church in Gore, VA. She attended Rudford University, where she completed her masters degree in Education. Then she moved to Purcellville in 1964 and taught Health and P.E. at Loudoun Valley High School for 27 years and became a real estate agent. She coached girls softball and taught drivers education behind the wheel after retiring. She worked part time at Mount Weather for FEMA for a few years until finally retiring in 2003.

She is survived by her only son: Clay Givens of Bluemont, VA; half sisters: Margaret Sales of Madison Heights, VA; Susan Riley of Winchester, VA; half brother: Stanley Riley, Jr. of Augusta, WV; special cousin: Rhoda & George Kirz of Winchester, VA and a host of cousins.

A funeral service will be held at the Ebenezer Christian Church on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Morris. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
