Robert Hicks McKay, 95, of Bridgewater, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Bridgewater Home.

He was born in Cisco, Texas on May 25, 1916, and was a son of the late P. W. and Mary (Hicks) McKay.

He was united in marriage on August 26, 1947 with Charlotte Jane (Swadley) McKay.

Robert graduated from the University of Maryland in 1942 with a BS in Agriculture. Bob was a retired middle school science teacher in the Frederick County Maryland System. Prior to teaching in Frederick he was a rural science teacher in Nigeria for 7 years. During his life Bob gave freely of his time. Among the many ways he contributed were through: Disaster Response, Refugee Resettlement, Habitat for Humanity, lunch program for the disadvantaged, and mentoring at Wilbur Pence Middle School. He was passionate about gardening and equally passionate with sharing his produce.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: daughter Nancy Jane Weimer and son-in-law Warren Weimer of Falls Church, VA and daughter Becky Hadgi-Maleki and son-in-law Behrooz Hadgi-Maleki of Denver, CO; three granddaughters, Layla Hadgi-Maleki, Roya Hadgi-Maleki and Laura Weimer. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Walker of Tucson, AZ and two brothers, Richard Hudnell McKay of Alexandria and Warren McKay of Silver Spring, MD. In addition to his parents, P.W. and Mary (Hicks) McKay, he was preceded in death by a brother, William P. McKay and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Allen.

A memorial service will be held at the Lantz Chapel at the Bridgewater Home, Bridgewater, VA on Thursday, December 29 at 2:30 PM with Chaplain Deb Huffman officiating.
