Ada A. McKay

1920-2003

Ada A. McKay, 82, of Wilmington, died Saturday morning (Aug. 2, 2003) at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. Her husband of 54 years, Wilbur E. McKay, survives. They were married Feb. 5, 1949.

Mrs. McKay was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Clinton County, a daughter of the late Harry and Eva Bryan Atkinson. She and her husband lived in Chester Township where they farmed all of their married life. She was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church where she was active in church activities. Mrs. McKay was also a member of the New Burlington Chapter 363 Order of the Eastern Star where she was a former Worthy Matron. She volunteered for the Chester Township-New Burlington Fire Department & Life Squad.

Mrs. McKay formerly worked at the OS&SO Home and McClellan Hospital. A 1938 graduate of Kingman High School, she attended Wilmington College for two years. She was involved in building the Majestic Springs Golf Course. She was always lending a helping hand to family, friends or neighbors.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McKay is survived by a daughter, Priscilla (Roger) Vaughan; four sons; David McKay, Thomas (Debbie) McKay, Steve (Roseanne) McKay and Roger McKay; eight grandchildren, Bryan Vaughan, Melissa Ellis, David McKay, Sarah McKay, Ben McKay, Spencer McKay, Roger McKay and Wayne McKay; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandria Vaughan, Cameron Vaughan, Kaitlin Osborn, Bryson McKay, Caden McKay, Marci Ellis and Michael Allen McKay; a step-granddaughter, Kendra McKay; a sister, Virginia Greisheimer; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKay was preceded in death by a brother, John Atkinson; and four sisters, Ruth Kelly, Clara Zurface, Leola Gray and Mary Green.

The funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at the NEELD FUNERAL HOME, 1276 N. Detroit St. in Xenia, the Rev. Stephen J. Beach and the Rev. John W. Beers Jr. officiating, with interment in the New Burlington Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 8:30 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon United Methodist Church, 5181 SR 380, Wilmington, OH 45177.
