Hey Michael,
Not sure if you had an additional conversation with the George individual we match with on FamilyTreeDNA (Y-DNA)? It is a 36 marker match. He states his ancestor ( which I have to still do some research on) as being from Wales.

Name is William George. Born 1690 and died 1763. Again it is noted that he is Welsh born. Lived in Chester Co. Pennsylvania. Found that online but have to find the paper trail.

If accurate, we can say we have a family trail, back to the late 1600s, out of wales.

I emailed the George connection and will see what he has to say.

Hello Dee Ann / Michael,
I heard back from David George, the George individual that we match with on Family Tree DNA /YDNA. He has his family going back to William George. Born 1690 and died 1763. Immigrant from Wales. Lived in Chester Co. Pennsylvania.

I am doing the paper trail review. I can only get back as far as William George (Jr or 2nd), born 1771 (Virginia), died 1845 (Arkansas). Married to Mary Bolin. Son is Solomon (David George's line). I am having trouble connecting to the George line above that. Still looking.

So we connect with this George family from Virginia (potentially Pennsylvania). I will keep digging and get back with you.

If we can find the match back to David George, the immigrant, he lived in Chester Co PA, as a Quaker at The Baptist Church in the Great Valley. That is about 50 miles from Frederick/ Warren County VA, where Robert MacKay Sr lived.

Another point in the search for answers.

Correction - If we can find the match back to William George, the immigrant, who lived in Chester Co PA, as a Quaker .... not David George. Sorry about that.

The paper trail I have found which apply to Robert Mackay Sr.

1671 born I believe MA
1692 Old Scots Church believe he was member seek articles on line
1704 he took his first wife Ann Brown believe could be in MA
1705 first daughter Mary Mackay born either in MA or NJ
1705 he witness land deed in Freehold, NJ the most important Family Document I have found so he know he was this location
1708 first son Robert born we know in NJ
1710 second daughter Margaret Mackay born in NJ
1711 second son James Mackay born in NJ
1714 third son Zachariah Mackay born in NJ
1714 the land deed he had witness was probated and he took an oath which means he was not Quaker at this time.
1715 third daughter Hannah Mackay born in NJ looking for mtDNA sample from her line
1716 fourth daughter Leah Mackay born in NJ looking for mtDNA sample from her line looking for a match or not
1719 last daughter Elizabeth Mackay born in NJ
1721 he listed on tax list for Chester Co. PA
1723 he listed on tax list for Chester Co. PA
1725 has second wife Mary and birth of last son Moses Mackay
1724 he signed marriage record of daughter Mary & George Robinson 12 Apr 1726 was Quaker at his time
1729 on list list for East Nottingham, PA/MD
1730 receive land grant in VA
1730 he sold his land in PA
1730 not on tax list in PA
1731 married his last wife Margaret, named as his widow in his will
1746 August his will dated
1752 will probated.

As far as finding a common male ancestor for the George Family of Wales with our Mackay Family, lots of luck. That common male ancestor might go back 44 generations. To find a common male ancestor with Robert Mackay the male must be found in MA or early NJ. I have found no paper evidence he had any family members that he traveled with him down from MA to NJ. Certainly none traveled with him from NJ to PA or down to VA.

Robert Mackay had only four sons: Robert, James, Zachriah & Moses. No other sons can be applied to him.

The way the Family Tree DNA Project DNA has set up the various Y marker kits not helpful. Only Y markers submitted by men who can document their lines back to Robert Mackay should be grouped together. The rest should be held part from ours

What would be helpful if can find a DNA Project which has living men in Scotland and compare your sample with them.

I wanted to let you know that Dee Ann's books are no longer for sale. I have uploaded to my cloud three of her books that were in PDF form which I will add links to them. One of which is the 1990 version of her book about our McKay family.

Michael,

By chance, are you familiar with any article referencing Robert Mackay Sr being a member of Old Scots Church in 1692. Dee Ann gave a timeline and stated the following: 1692 Old Scots Church believe he was member seek articles on line.

I have been unable to locate any such article. Do you have any info?

Shaun.

This is new to me as well.

I'm going to have to go through all of her forum posts to see what I can update the family records with.

I'm glad our message boards preserve all of our old posts.
