Hey Dee / Michael,
On family tree, I have a match with Name: Donald Sholes Thompson (Michael - you should connect to him also). His most distant ancestor is Alexander Thompson b. 1761 and d. 1827. Marker Location: Perthshire, Scotland, UK. I did a search on-line and found in a History of Newbury Vermont, information on a Alexander Thompson, b. 1761 and d. 1827. Location: Perth, Scotland. Seems to line up. May be someone similar or not even the person Donald Thompson is referencing.

Michael - have you had any contact with Donald Thompson? I was planning to email him. Just curious.

Jerry McKay and Kenneth McKay (also descends of Moses Sr.) shows Y marker match only 12 markers when you increase the markers Mr. Donald Sholes Thompson disappears from their listing of Y marker matches.
I would assume, therefore, your male ancestor with him would be too far back to find any kind of name.
Gerard Mckay (from mine and Michael line) does not have him on any of his list.

How we address a letter is how it has been explained to me:
12 marker test just Country
37 marker test just State within the Country
67 marker test just region within the State
111 marker test just city within the State
I have no idea what "Super Y Marker Test" can do for you.
We have to apply the DNA test to the paper documentation we have to try to make sense of what the DNA test is telling us. The more of our known cousin who do these test and share the information the more we all benefit.
The good new is the DNA Profile for Robert Mackay Sr. has been established. Which means all male persons of the surname Mackay/McKay/McKee need only to do a simple Y marker test and they would know if they belong to our group or not.
When we send in our DNA samples do not place the wrong birth location to the oldest known male ancestor. To do so misleads others research.
Our Robert Mackay was NOT born in Ireland or Scotland.

To be a member of our group of Mackay/McKay Haplogroup must be R-L1066
Hugh Mackay which researchers want to link to our group "I-M353" totally different group. People should find their delete key on their key board.
Listed on Mackay Project Mackay some kits have listed oldest known ancestors going back to 980 to 1050 if these researcher really have documentation I would not count on them.

Any male descend of Robert Mackay Sr. of our group can get a "free" 12 Y Marker test through Daisy L. McKay fund. They just have to tell the web master who of the four sons they descend from said Robert Sr.: Robert Jr. (believe 3 samples), James (1), Zachariah (0) and Moses (8 or 9).
It is just that SIMPLE. You are in or out just do a simple test.

Family Tree DNA Project Mackay
#95886 recorded his oldest known male ancestor: Crinian, Mormaer of Atholl b. 975 d. 1045 he had no male issue, so I do not know how this researcher can claim him as his oldest known male ancestor. I have this man else where on my chart. In any case, our group of Mackay does not match
#N37831 Lye 9th Chief of Mackay born 1435-1517. His tree found in Ancestry. Not sure if he has a male issue or not. No documentation given.

The Y marker test is where you are matching Gerald and Michael McKay right ? Not with Family Finder (autosomal) right? We can match with MtDNA back 10,000 years, but not with Family Finder.
You do you match with your Family Finder ?
We have to use all three and apply the results with to our paper documentation.
I just did Family Finder (Family Tree DNA). My results are interesting. As you noted Dee Ann, I match with Kenneth and Michael McKay on Y-DNA, but not thru Family Finder. Thru Family Finder, I do match with am individual with the last name of Jobe and McKay. I also match with a few Thompsons. That is the family of Donald Sholes Thompson His most distant ancestor is Alexander Thompson b. 1761 and d. 1827, who originated from Perthshire, Scotland, UK. We may not be able to find out how, but I am matching with Thompsons.
Also, thru my origins, part of Family Finder, I show no origins from the British Isle. I show that I originate from Western / Central Europe 70% and 12% Scandinavia. My assumption is Scandinavia is the Vikings (but that is an assumption). I also know for a fact that I have a blood line thru England (Mom) and thru Ireland (McKay side - married a McPike who is irish). So to show no origins from the British Isle threw me off.
The Celtic People were in the British Isle and also Europe. The Vikings came down into the British Isles and Scots are know to have Viking lineage. The Germanic Tribes pushed into these areas. I believe I am Scottish, but my blood line originated from somewhere else.

How a researcher uses the results some times is not correct. If you paper documentation is not correct on your tree then that could be the problem trying to make sense of your "Family Finder" results.
When I started my Genealogical Quest I thought I was 100% English: Shipp from England NOT true but from Germany. Misleading information from my own grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp. Never "trust" family members supplied information, must be checked against original documents. Hopgood from England NOT true but from Finland. My cousin James F. Hopgood Y marker results turned our research on its head. So you could be trying to use false documentation on your chart to make sense of your DNA results. Like putting the chart before the horse. We all need to share our DNA results to look for the correct paper path.
Like having Robert Mackay Sr. came from Ireland false.
You are made up of all the 16 people on the right hand side of your 4th Generation Chart. You as a male can supply only two of these important DNA profiles which make up you and are part of the make up of your DNA Test "Family Finder". Y marker top of the chart your most male line and mtDNA bottom line of your chart. Both are important to give you the frame of your entire chart.
Since I do not know you, I can't say if you favor your father or mother. If you can get a sibling to do the same test, most likely you will be surprised by the results. Could be entirely different.
I hope you did your mtDNA line, that could shed more light on the bottom line of your entire chart.
If you are serious about DNA then you need to chase your Aunts and Uncles and 1st cousins to do their Y Marker (if they apply to your chart) and their mtDNA (again if they are on your chart) only with these other DNA profiles can you start make sense of you DNA results.
Good luck with getting your relations to supply the necessary test results. I surf the net for public posting of all my other DNA Profiles which might be posted to the public. Particularly if I know a surname has a Y study being conducted for one of my known male ancestors.
If you do start to fill in all the other 14 DNA Profiles (male and female) only then will your "Family Finder" start to make sense.
Good luck
