Ancestry no longer sells Y marker test so you will have to go with Family Tree DNA. For the low price of $58. I have seen the test as low as $17.

There is an up and running Mackay Project already presents. Known male descends of our Robert Mackay (c1680-1752) are present. He had only four sons: Robert (Gerard & Michael line)James (one done), Zachariah (none) and Moses (about six I think).

Their birth years range from c1710 to c1720 in NEW JERSEY. The family unit removed from Monmouth Co. NJ to present day Nottingham MM Cecil Co. PA (then Chester Co. PA) c1725 and then down to what then was called Augusta Co. VA where our Robert Mackay Sr. died c1752. It is now the present day Frederick and Shenandoah Co. VA. My line fell into Warren Co. VA when formed. Michael has a picture of the locations of our various farms.

The locations where your McKay, Mackay, McCoy lived my group NEVER lived in those locations. So why would you think you are from the same family?

However, a very simple Y marker test will tell you again in blink of an eye which group you do not belong. I believe I have already told you another kit from a researcher his McCoy from Bedford Co. VA is already present--so you might match with him.

E-mail Michael he was the first of our group to send in a sample and it was awhile before he had a match.
