Hello,

I'm excited to find this page - not only for all the information, but for all the cousins I did not know about.

My 2nd great grandparents on my Mother's side were Matilda E. Sowers & Hilliary G. Burch. Their daughter Effie (m. James F. Kerfoot) was my great grandmother; their daughter Emma "Effie" Maude was my grandmother (m. John William Fraber). My Mother was Rosemary Ann Fraber.

I feel fortunate the Fraber & Kerfoot lines are so well researched and documented. My Father's side is Polish and I can't get anywhere there.

Regards,
Connie

To say we are distant cousins is an understatement. I believe you hold three lines back to Jacob Sowers and I hold two. You have two back to Wm. Kerfoot and I hold one. We are also descends of Wm. Mitchell and Matilda Johnston.

You are also distant cousin to web master Michael L. McKay through Daniel Sowers and Sally Davis.

Your Burch family intermarried with this McKay family Hillary G. Burch married Dorothy McKay. I believe she did research on Burch family but I do not have what she found. You will find the family in St. Mary Co. MD.

As far as I know the Y markers for our Sowers and Kerfoot have not been done. There is old incorrect information posted on the net about the emigrate ancestors of both families. I am still looking for the Y markers of our Mitchell and Johnston families.

As far as doing research in Poland, the L.D.S. library might have films on line or you could do it the hard way and order the film and view them at one of their local libraries. I did know a few researchers at my old L.D.S. library who did research in Poland. You must know the village before being able to do real research.

I hope you will consider doing a DNA test through Family Search DNA--Family Finder. You should match with me, Michael and my two sons. Also a descend of Jacob Sr. through son Jacob Jr.

Family Tree DNA might have a whole section just for people who have Poland in their family tree. By sending in your DNA sample your lines will in the the gene pool and with luck match others.

One little DNA test will open up doors you can not imagine.

I don't know if you live in or near Clarke County, VA but wanted to let you know of our annual Service and Meeting at Bethel Church. It's where a lot of our Sowers & Kerfoot families worshipped for many years.

What is your user name on Ancestry? My cousin is A. M. He took the test because my Aunt's DNA kept coming up unreadable. I think because of medications. Anyway. William Sowers is the farthest I have gotten on the family tree and he was married to Mary Ausherman. Both are buried in Burkittsville, Frederick, Maryland at the Pleasant View Chuch Cemetery. Would be interesting to see where you fall in line and how much information you do have. I was able to buy a book published with much of the Arnold and Ausherman and Slifer families. Unfortunately my 2 times Great Grandfather's brother Kenly was the only Sowers in the book. So not much information on the Sowers. I am finding many of them married family members and many had the same names so a little harder to track. If you do have this part of the family or want it I can give you what I have.

I guess my Ancestry Family Finder name is just my real name--Dee Ann (Shipp) Buck. My tree address on Ancestry trees.Ancestry.com/tree/44894133/family. My DNA matches are linked to my tree so you can see who I match with bearing name Sowers.

I do not seem to have a DNA match with your cousin "A.M".

My cousin Michael L. McKay (DNA on Family Tree DNA) we related through McKay and Sowers Families. He has placed here on this web site a lot of material dealing with our Sowers Family of Frederick Co. VIRGINIA. Our Jacob Sowers (will here on line) came down from PA settled in Winchester, VIRGINIA.

If males who bear Sowers surname would do and make public their results researchers could then start to see-- what I suspect that there many different Sowers, Sower or Saucer families that settled in early PA and some removed down into VA.

It would appear your group of Sowers removed to Frederick Co. MARYLAND. My Schipp/Ship/Shipp family took the path from PA to Frederick Co. MARYLAND to Hampshire Co. VIRGINIA (now WV) down to Shenandoah Co. VA.

On paper I do not think your group of Sowers are related to our group. I found on line the grave site of your Wm. Sowers born 1827 died 1893 in MARYLAND (Burkettsvlle, Frederick). You should check census for James W. Sowers and John Sowers. Another interesting grave marker same location John P. Sowers 1787-1867. You should check county tax records and land deeds for Frederick Co. MARYLAND.

These dates and LOCATION would rule out being descend of our Jacob Sowers of Winchester, VIRGINIA.

Might check Y Search run by Family Tree DNA and see if a male bearing the name of Sowers of MARYLAND has done his DNA test.

In any case, your posting about your Wm. Sowers should not be be linked to our Wm. Sowers of VIRGINIA. People who do not know better might think they were of the same family. Be aware a number of Family Tree on Ancestry have mixed together different group of Sowers as the same family. People do not know how to delete false material from their trees.

To confuse you perhaps further--later in 1800's a branch of our Sowers did removed to Loudoun Co. VA (where I now live) just across the river from Frederick Co. MARYLAND. But again not the same group of Sowers.

Family Tree DNA has a chromosome browser so researcher can see how many DNA they share with other researchers. If you were to order their Family Finder--Michael L. McKay, Dee Ann Buck and my two sons on this site. And a descend of Jacob Sr.'s son Jacob Jr.

The test are offered and I am telling you the DNA of Jacob Sowers SR. is present in the gene pool-- you just have to do them.

Look at Y Search MX9YQ you can send him a message descend of John Sowers 1743-1785 listed 1790 Frederick Co. MD census married to Sophia Mutschier. Group "G". Does not match others posted. Message on his entry he does match other DNA sample to people who lived in Frederick Co. MD.
