We will be leaving for the Collett-McKay Picnic tomorrow. I'm hoping to get some DNA sample requests so we can increase the database and also get another video interview for the newspaper write-up.

would or could help us. They would be rather distant McKay cousin--common ancestor Robert Jr. As you know he had nine children:
1. Andrew Mckay one of his lines settled in OH. I still have hopes that his line established by Robert S. McKay stayed in VA and some of his descends would do Y marker test or Autosomal. These McKay would have a second line of McKay he married a cousin.
2. Jacob Mckay Sr. is our line
3. Margaret Mckay m. Richard Ridgeway I have a Autosomal DNA match with a researcher of this line
4. Robert Mckay III removed to KY I have hopes that researchers of this line will turn up in future, lots of descends
5. Job Mckay removed to OH I hope his descends will turn up in future
6. John McKay is my second Mckay line and I have two Autosomal DNA matches from this line. He could have a possible male descends removed to TX.
7. Enoch Mckay removed to TN we have Y marker sample for this line
8. Jesse Mckay believed died without issue
9. Sarah Mckay stayed in VA (Fauquier Co. VA) married Robert Hume, hope her descends will turn up in future
Talked to a member of Burch Mckay line, but they seem not interested in doing DNA. Disappointing, but I have learned to work around those kind of people. DNA like the computer will be a must for future genealogists.
I have fully documented by paper & DNA my link to Thomas Buck Mckay. If others do not wish to the the same, not my problem.

I've got requests for 8 kits. Only thing is they are all Family Finder. I did not have anyone who could do the Y-DNA test. Perhaps when I post it on Facebook I may get a couple but Family Finder will help link up some folks.

people who really want to do their genealogy will come around to the sense of DNA testing. We should work on Burch McKay male descends and Branson McKay one male line. That would give up two closer lines to us.
Good to know about the Family Finder kits. Will be looking to see if they match

Should I have the kits mailed to me and I can send them out to everyone who signed up?
I think that would be good provided I can then have their kit numbers and their login info. to sign them up to the Mackay DNA project.
Are you supposed to order them or do I have to do that?

Shame you did not have inter-net computer link at the picnic. Then you would have helps those who are interested sign up. In any case, it is easy to order a kit, but they will have to take the time to type on their site in their personal profile the surnames they wish to study.
I do not know if Mackay Project list "Family Finder" kit. If they did I would made mine available. The female test results with Mackay that they post.
As far as others giving you their kit numbers and password--people seem to have trouble doing that !!! With these Family Finder the racial make-up is given !! Some people might be taken a back to what they might find or do not find. Many "Family Tale" are going to fall.
I would let each person take the responsible for their own kit and we hope they will be honest enough to share the information.

I sent an email to the project about the fact that they are all Family Finder. Just waiting for a reply. If they won't fund it I guess it's a lost cause and I'll just have to send a letter to everyone who signed up explaining the situation.
Since no money changed hands nothing was really lost except the possibility of establishing more DNA contacts between cousins.

It would be nice if our OH cousins would do DNA test Y marker or Family Finder. But researcher
"dameallen" has given her sample which contains Andrew McKay son of Robert Jr. She has a double line of McKay. If others are interested has Buck Family of Warren Co. VA contained in her sample.
They descend from Robert Jr. son Andrew and my line from son Jacob who stayed in VA.
