HI Dee Ann,
I did do a test, a 37-DNA test with FamilyTree. Sorry if that was not clear. I match with the Robert MacKay Sr matches on DNAFamily Tree, such as Michael L McKay, the ODell matches, etc.
So the interesting part is that I match with someone with ancestral origins of Ireland. Again, that is per the Ancestral Origins section. I always thought that the ancestral origins section was related to the DNA tests itself. I never stated in my profile that I was scottish, english or welsh.
However, Seamus does list in his profile that Robert McKay is from Ireland. So I am not curious if that is my Ireland shows up in the ancestral origins section of the profile. That is the area that breaks out your matches whether it be 12, 25 and 37, etc.
Thoughts?
When you received your Y DNA Kit a slip came with it and Family Tree DNA ask kit taker to state oldest know male ancestor and birth dates and place of birth. This information is then placed in their computer files. They also want your oldest known female ancestor and place of birth. This is the source of the information found on each of our "Profile". It has nothing to do with your DNA sample.
Family Tree DNA has a new thing on their site "Family Tree". This information given by each researcher just by typing in from their paper research as their personal tree. You supply to them the surnames (right or wrong) in your tree and those surnames become linked to your DNA sample. Like some people give the parentage of Robert Mackay as Hugh and Jane (Dunbar) MacKay. Well that is wrong but that surname DUNBAR will appear on their surnames and their real DNA really does not contain Dunbar. Just has some people have Robert's wife as Ann Brown daughter of James & Hannah (Clayton) Brown, well that's is wrong and those researchers really do not have in their actual sample that Brown or Clayton. But other researchers do not know they have been supplied false information.
We supply the information used to fill in locations on map finder of our ancestors. If people put in incorrect information then false information then linked to people DNA sample.
People can place in Family Tree DNA computer bank Robert Mackay was born in Ireland, Wales or Scotland, that does not make it true nor can you come to that through your DNA sample.
On the other hand, the Y marker numbers for Robert Mackay Sr. are set in your pattern of numbers because it is supported by all the other McKay Y Marker Kits. If your known McKay 1st cousin is tested and he does not match your numbers, then he is not who he think he is. Somewhere along his male line he had "unplanned birth event" on his direct male line.
I offer "free" 12 Y marker test for any descend of Robert Mackay Sr. Now if you take the test and do not match, then I would think they should replace the funds.
From your DNA Site now just Y marker you can "update" your sample to include Family Finder, some of the other Y marker McKay are in this DNA site. Kenneth L. McKay is from your branch of Moses Mackay Sr. Michael L. McKay from my branch of Robert Mackay Sr. to Robert Jr. you might not show a match with him. Robert Mackay Sr. is my 7th great grandfather and I have a double line through is eldest son Robert Jr. (his sons Jacob & John).
Send me your Kit Number and Pass Word and I will order the test for you--MERRY CHRISTMAS.
