I did do a dna test but it was through ancestry.com not family tree. I am starting to not like ancestry.com they are giving me misleading info. I am looking into other web sights. The closes male Mckay I have is a cousin that I don't know, his name is Russall McKay. He is the son of Jimmie Lee Mckay witch is my uncle and the g grandson of Jefferson Davis McKay. Uncle Jimmie is dead, my grandfather is dead. I am trying to remember if my g uncles had any children (can't remember). I only meat them when I was a small child.
Good luck with your move.

The site Ancestry which supplies the materials you can decide if it is right or wrong. Like all those census, which in the "olden days" researchers had to go to public library and view the records on film. Some of the marriage records they give are directly from the original records. That's good. But they have what they call International Index of Marriages which was taken from old L.D.S. records. Those can contain bad information.

You will want to check out on line State of VA Library has records on line, like Chancery Suit File. Last I check your Shenandoah Co. VA file you can view the actual records which are contained in each file. In "olden days" researcher would have to order the file through State Library or L.D.S. library.

The site "Fine a Grave" I wish I had that information when I first started out doing genealogy. Some information can be wrong, but you have a picture of the actual grave stone and location!!. So you can check it out for yourself.

Where the misleading information is found on Ancestry. com is their "Ancestry Tree". They do not control what researchers place on their trees. You will find people just copy what others have without really researching the material. These "trees" are linked to each researcher DNA sample, the tree information might be incorrect. What a DNA match is telling you that you link up with other researcher, but you have to know if the tree they present is correct and where is the correct link or links.

There are plenty of sites on the net about genealogy, some might just be copying others material. If people will not tell you their sources, then most likely they have not done the research.

Now that you have entered the world of DNA Genealogy. You know how much of your material is based on original records and now you will have your DNA matches to confirm that paper documentation.

I have on my "The Buck Family Tree" in Ancestry placed * by first name of my ancestor means I have found DNA match with another researchers. I have posted here on Michael's site all matches with apply to various branches of Robert Mackay Sr. descends. If Ancestry has applied an original records which supports my line I have click that information in place in my tree. I have not used the information supplied by others trees.

Good luck.
