By now I could not be surprized at what you can find on line in connection with various Family History.

But you would think people would want to use some kind of control of what they print and pass around.

In connection with my grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp family tree through his mother side Moslena Ball through her father side John Washington Ball.

His mother side-- Athaline Pilcher has Jett ancestry. One of her cousins help John W. Booth ecape through Westmoreland Co. VA. But that's another story.

Linked with Jett family is Hutchinson family linked with Spilman.

1. Lettice Gladis Spilman born 1707 Westmoreland Co. VA died 1788 Westmoreland Co. VA m. John Hutchinson her father

2. Thomas Spilman born 1680 Westmoreland died 1740 Westmoreland m. Elizabeth Dawson. I do have three other Spilman DNA matches

3. James Spilman born 1650 Westmoreland Co. VA, died 1715 Westmoreland Co. VA. married Mary Flake. I do have other Flake DNA samples

4. Clement Spilman b. 1620 died 1677 Westmoreland Co. VA married Martha Mason. He would be my 10th gr-grandfather
My Ancestry DNA profile shows no Native American ancestry.

My 1% African would be about the same number generations back in time.

I need to pay a visit to Fairfax Co. VA Library I believe they have books dealing with land deeds & wills for the county, beyond what I have on hand.

Now the problem-- all over the net the parents given for Clement Spilman-- Henry Spelman of early Jamestown and his wife Martha Fox, said to be sister to--Pochontas.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, has four pages tracing the life of Henry Spelman of Jamestown. Spread all over Ancestry trees the same information.

Also posted on line by a researcher "The Offical records (the Jamestown Diaries among others) indicate that Henry Spilman died without issue, meaning without children. His brother Thomas was to administer the estate. The confusion appears to have started with the Spelman Genealogy written by Fannie Barbour for Laura Spelman Rockefeller, that traces the Spelman family through Richard Spelman of Middletown Connecticut to English Ancestry using Henry Spelman of Jamestown."

"There are lots of people who accept Martha Fox and the possibility that he had taken a Potomac Indian woman as a wife. "

If others have input as to the issue or not of Henry Spelman I would love to heard what others know.

Found Ancestry researcher "tshea2001" descend of Thomas Spilman & wife Elizabeth Dawson through their son Wm. Spilman husband of Margaret Frank. We now have three DNA matches with the line of Wm. & Margaret (Franks) Spilman.

I descend from Thomas' daughter Lettice Gladis Spilman. This piece of DNA goes down to Hutchinson to Jett to Pilcher to Ball. Part of the DNA profile of my great-grandmother Moslena Ball.

This researcher also descend of Uriah Edwards (1714-1781) wife Mildred Head. I think his line the same as mine back to Wales. At the moment there is so much confusing information about the first three generations in Wales I am not going to post my line on line.
