Where did you get the information ? The locations you are looking, not where the descends of Robert Mackay lived.

Michael has an entire site dealing with just our Robert Mackay of early VA. Reading his material should have given you the answer to your question.

I have told people that we also have two different DNA programs being done--Y Marker & Autosomal-- which known descends of Robert have DNA in the gene pool. If you really want to know if you descend from our Robert Mackay--take THE TEST !

Again you do not need to have a direct McKay male line to do the test--AUTOSOMAL--is here.

When my late great-uncle Hunter Branson McKay started to do research in 1930's we did not have DNA to check our documentation, now WE HAVE.

When his work started to go out to the public people who had the surname west and south, tried to link their families with our, because it easier to that instead of really finding out the correct parentage.

Kaye McCoy email address mccoys@detnet.com has placed on Ancestry "Possible Ancestry of McCoy of Montgomery Co. VA". Her statement "we" do not know all the children of Robert McKay is false. All the children of Robert are fully documented and have DNA samples to proof different lines of descend.

Robert's youngest son Moses DID NOT have a son Richard. And never lived in Mongtomery Co. VA.

Her article shows little knowledge of the history of VA or the life story of Robert Mackay Sr. His will was filed in then the larger area of VA known as Augusta Co. VA. He actually lived in present day Warren Co. VA taken from parts of Shenandoah Co. VA & Frederick Co. VA. Michael has maps of the locations of his houses right here on his site.

His son Robert Jr. house has a historical marker, known as the oldest house in WARREN CO. VA.

People just think because the will was filed in Augusta Co. VA, they look at present map of VA and think Southern VA. When they try to link their families to ours. Another researcher as assigned a Patrick McKay as son of Robert Mackay Sr.

Found on Ancestry abtract of the will of Richard McCoy of Montgomery Co. VA and he has a son named Wm. You might try to get a copy of it to be sure they have the right Wm. Harmon McCoy.

Do not trust posting found on Ancestry or more particularly Ancestry Trees. If they are not willing to tell you their sources--then mostly like they are just using old incorrect material or guessing. What they tell you should make sense with known historical facts.

No, your line not linked from Richard McCoy of Montgomery Co. VA to our Moses Mackay Sr. of Shenandoah Co. VA (did not have a son Richard) to Robert MacKay Sr. of early NJ, PA & VA

IT IS FALSE.

Found this information on line I new you could tell me if it was legit or not.I am very discouraged there is a lot of misleading information you get so hopeful then you look again and find out it's false my niece pulled something up two years ago and we all were so excited but started researching and some of the dates were fabricated because the names were the same but like you said places were different..My ancestors were in Bedford Va,then my Grandpa Nathaniel and his younger brother Ammon migrated to Breckinridge county Ky.The site was called Strayleaves I pulled it up from Google I was really hoping it was legit so I am still stuck on William Sr. born 1730 Fredrick Md wife Ann....Thanks for your patience an time...

Here we pull no punches.

I do longer correct researchers pieces on line, because they do not like to be told they have the wrong information.

So their junk continues to be passed around to others and they seem to be happy as long as it if free and takes no effort.

When you first wrote, I was very glad I had been contacted by an McCoy/McKay who oldest known ancestor hailed from Frederick Co. MARYLAND.

I really do not think your DNA profile will match our, but it would be interesting to deal with the results either way.

I would like to make you the "Poster Child" of the surname in that location. Proudly holding the Maryland State Flag, much more interesting flag than Virginia. I was raised in Montgomery Co. MD.

The records are available for that area of the county, you just have to read them. I have placed a few items here on Michael's site. And if you are starting on a line that no one else has done, so much the better. You will not be pick up others wrong material.

Other researchers who hail from that region of VA can use your DNA profile as a starting point for all the others who in the past were using the wrong family group--Robert Mackay Sr. of early VA.

So the opportunity has been given to you to establish the blood line of your Wm. McCoy of Frederick Co. MD and make others come to you. They will have to show some real effort by piling on additional DNA results, establishing all the different line that came from that one man.
