You will do yourself a big favor by doing this test and you will know for sure if you are related to our group of Mackay/McKay. Either with Family Tree DNA or Ancestry.

Good luck with your research.

Boy, I am glad to hear from you. I have been looking for McCoy, McKay etc....who lived in Frederick Co. MD.

We have a mystery surrounding our McKay with Floyd McKay. Check some of my posting about the surname in Frederick Co. MD. If your family really came from this location, I do not think related to our.

Native American ancestry, told to Michael about that issue. He has section on his site about them.

Gypsy ancestry they should be able to tell you about that through Autosomal test.

If you are a male McKay the Y marker test should tell you if a member of our group of Mackay/McKay.

I have Payne way back on my line connected with Rust family. My husband has Stump inlaws like 2nd cousin in Baltimore, MD.

You will have to let us know if you are tested, because if you do not match, we will not know.

Good luck with your research.

Just from what you have told me and years of watching how different families moved from place to place.

I BELIEVE your group came into early MD or PA removed west into Frederick Co. MD down to Beford Co. VA then to KY.

Our group of Mackay/McKay documented early Monmouth Co. NJ to PA/MD (Cecil & Calvert) down to then Augusta Co. VA (now Warren, Shenandoah & Frederick counties) by 1731.

I have never found any documents linking our Robert Mackay born c1670 to 1680 with any other family of said surname.

State of VA has Chancery Suit on line. And you are in luck because they have Bedford Co. VA images on line.

www.virginiamemory.com/collections/chancery

click on Chancery Index

There is a suit called Edward Hare vs executor of Wm. Payne and surname McCoy is mentioned as part of the suit.

You might check site "Find a Grave". I did not find any Bedford Co. VA, some Frederick Co. MD (too late), did not check Loudoun Co. VA.

You might check L.D.S. site they have free records and you might be lucky and find important records pertaining to your group of McCoy.
