Here's a link to my friend Sara Whitford's website:

Perhaps my "Indian" ancestors were not making it up after all.
Sara replied to my message and included this webpage regarding the whole "Middle East" issue:

http://dna-explained.com/2012/07/24/the ... al-result/

What's been going on is many people who have long claims of Indian ancestry, even members of actual tribes themselves are coming up with this Middle Eastern origin for their population finder results. Family Tree is continuing to upgrade their results info.

For a while my Western European results were saying "Orcadian" but now just simply say Western European.

We had a pleasant dinner with my son Brandan his his "near wife" April and her mother. April has a Jewish great-grandmother and rumor in the family "Native American" and African-American.

She has order the test through Family Tree DNA. Will be interesting to see her Population Finder.

I have never really been helped by Family Tree DNA various project, but perhaps Native American project really do help researchers.

My eldest son Travis' wife Monica born in Bolivia, so we know her Population Finder will show "Native American" and her great-grandfather came directly from Spain.

April's "Family Tales" about African-American & Native American ancestry her DNA has proven just not present. She does have 1% Jewish. I guess the new Family Tree DNA goes down pass just 3%.

We are going to do Monica now we know she has Native American ancestry. I will be interested to see all her differents parts on the World Map.

My new Family Tree DNA does show 3% Northern African, which kind of matches what Ancestry gave me. Travis chart picked it up but Brandan did not.

Mary Meritt has ordered two kits for her two uncles. She has also transfered her Ancestry Autosomal Test to Family Tree DNA.

I still have 82 pages on Ancestry to look through to see if there are any real interesting matches.
The Autosomal DNA sample of Kenneth L. McKay has given some interesting results to ponder.

At first look the known descends of Robert Mackay Sr. through his youngest son Moses Sr. are his only matches: Brian W. Beck, Herbert W. Beck & Joshua Eugene Taylor.

There are some names which I do not know how to place, so could be others.

Odd thing is I show a match with Brian W. Beck on Family Tree DNA and Ancestry, but none of the others.

Travis (my eldest) know a match with Hubert W. Beck, which I do not.

I have matches with known Robert Sr. descend through his known children: Robert Jr. (my line & Michael), James, Zachariah (through his daughters) & Moses. And his daughters: Elizabeth & Hannah.

Both of my sons match with Michael L. McKay. Travis picked up match with Linda F. Rogers (James Sr. Line) and Hubert W. Beck (Moses Sr.).

Odd.

I find it odd that my son shows no matches with his distant known McKay cousins: Linda F. Rogers, Brian W. Beck & Glen Jo. Hill. He does match with Michael L. McKay on #1 & #15. So he has picked up that part of my gene pool for McKay & Sowers.

Out of the five Mackay/McKay living in Canada, New Zealand or Australia he shows matches with three of them: Pamela M. Thomson, Roderic W. Fairweather & Margaret Macphail.

On my mother's side quick look he matches with James F. Hopgood, John W. Mayberry & Mona Gail Romans.

No Derryberry.

On his Population Finder, his map looks just like his father's, which I find strange.
Two of the kits supplied by Pamela Margaret Thomson and Roderic Wallace Fairweather descend from Donald MacKay died 1871 in Farr, Sutherland, Scotland. You can find on line information about this location.

Margaret MacPhail descend of Ann Mackay born 1791 married to Donald Buchanan they lived in Isle of Lewis, Scotland.

Janet Joyce Kelly another kit from sample her Mary Mackay born c1800 location only given as Ireland her son John Rice removed to US.

Dr. Brian W. Beck and his father Dr. Hubert Wayne Beck are both in Family Tree DNA and both are a match to Kenneth McKay, cousin to Mary L. Badgwell Meritt.

Since I do not match with Hubert W. Beck, I think the DNA I share with Brian W. Beck is through Snyder Family. His line from Rachel Snyder who lived in Amherst Co. VA. One of the emigrate Jacob Snyder had a son John who did live in this location.

We share #3 9.04 which would mean a distant cousin.

Kenneth McKay has a great amount 16.46 with said Brian W. & Hubert W. Beck. Could represent Mckay and Jobe ancestry.

All means the Family Finders of Moses Mackay's Line 13 in number match with each other but not with lines of Robert Mackay.

I do realize some people have to work for a living, but when you find time here are the ones I hope you also match

Known descends of Robert Mackay Sr.

1. Linda F. Rogers from James McKay Sr.
2. Brian Wayne Beck from Moses McKay so has Jobe as well
3. Glen Joseph Hill believe a Kyle & McKay from Robert Jr.

They would be 7th to 8th cousins or distant cousin. Could be others I have not figured out. Some researchers do not fill in their listing of surnames at all. And you find out some just list surnames they are really interested in working.

The ones who have Scottish Ancestry

1. Margaret MacPhail

2. G.T.H. Shaw

3. Pamela M. Thomson

4. Roderie Wallace Fairweather they (#3 & #4) have piece of DNA on the same location. I don't know who they are, but must be related to me through the same branch of the tree.

5. Dorothy M. Elder

These five are the ones who show Scottish Blood lines who left Scotland about 70 to 100 after our group of Mackay.

It might be you will have other Scottish DNA which is in the same group.

Off hand, there are Haines, Lehew & Branson you should match.

Well, do you have Native American ancestry ?
My 1st cousin Dr. James F. Hopgood kindly let me look at his account on Family Tree DNA Family Finder. His sample would cover my mother's father side of my tree. I want to see if he has a match with Margaret MacPhail and all the others who have Scottish Mackay going to Canada.

I am glad to say he does not. But my mother's mother side still not checked. However, Maragaret MacPhail has her sample on Ancestry as well and my Uncle Skipper does not match her as well.

What would be nice if others of our Mackay/McKay are showing these matches.

What an interesting Family Finder results from my daughter in law. She was born in Bolivia all her lines in the same location. Her "Family Tale" her main line on her father's side came from Spain and married local woman and stayed.

Well, I have more Spain in my tree than she does. She is 63% "New World" from Alaska down the coast to Colombia. 18% East Asian, 7 % Central/South Asian, the only European 12% from FINLAND.

This is why we never trust "Family Tales" her European must have come from Finland not Spain into South America.

We are going to see if her father will do his Y marker to see if it is really on their male line. We have to pin down the actual time period her line left Finland for Bolivia.

This is the second time FINLAND has entered into my research . First with my Hopgood being actual HOPPENGREN and now with my daughter in law. I am going to do a quick study on the history of this location.
