Still awaiting some of the results to come in. I confirmed again 3rd cousin once removed for you and 4th cousin for Brandon. The next closest person appears to be related on the Strother side, probably through the Brawner family. Unfortunately I don't really know much about Julie Brawner's ancestry to connect him yet.

We could ask Daryl to do the test. He would match closer to you in that he's the grandson of your great-uncle Hunter which makes you and he 2nd cousins.
It would be nice to have the Y marker from grandson of Hunter B. McKay, who started collecting information about our McKay starting in 1930's.

Of all the children of Charles Edward "CE" McKay only Hunter B. McKay had a son who had a son who had a son. All the other sons (of C.E.) had no issue or no sons.

It would be nice for me to have Y marker of my grandmother Daisy L. (McKay) Shipp's brother, however I have through my own efforts & DNA samples firmly established my link to Thomas Buck McKay.

Looking back to Thomas B. McKay, he had three sons who had issue: Wm. B. (Michael's line), Charles E. (Daryl's line) & Oscar T. had five children. So male lines who could supply Y marker.

I consider Autosomal DNA just as importance in establishing a link from one generation to the next. And now the Y markers for Robert Mackay Sr. have been firmly established. If you do not have those numbers, then better look for another ancestor. Same is true with Autosomal DNA profiles, you either match or you don't.

Sallie Branson McKay who married her cousin J.C. McKay, their daughter Dorothy McKay married Hillary G. Burch. Some of their Burch cousins appear to be active in genealogy. You can find Castleman Family Tree in Ancestry, has chart of said Hillary Gibson Burch. The Sowers, Kerfoot, Mitchell & Johnston families are also linked with this blood line.

Another Burch researcher has submitted DNA sample through Ancestry Mary Ann Donohoe 500. She it would appear not Burch/McKay descend, but her line goes off from another son of Jesse Burch.

The Daisy Love McKay DNA Fund is public and open to all males who descend from Robert Mackay Sr. down your male line--FREE--Y marker test--if you want to help in our research--Great--not interested then do not ask if you related to ROBERT MACKAY SR.

I sent Daryl a message. Hope he agrees to do this.

You should be matching with Joan Addison & Todd Darrin Duke. They have Branson on their list of surname. I have e-mail both of them. Their lines removed from VA for the south and or MO.

They are the only researchers who put Branson on their list, could be others who have not fill in the list of surnames.

I guess those people just do not wait to be contacted.

I do realize some people have to work for a living, but when you find time here are the ones I hope you also match

Known descends of Robert Mackay Sr.

1. Linda F. Rogers from James McKay Sr.
2. Brian Wayne Beck from Moses McKay so has Jobe as well
3. Glen Joseph Hill believe a Kyle & McKay from Robert Jr.

They would be 7th to 8th cousins or distant cousin. Could be others I have not figured out. Some researchers do not fill in their listing of surnames at all. And you find out some just list surnames they are really interested in working.

The ones who have Scottish Ancestry

1. Margaret MacPhail

2. G.T.H. Shaw

3. Pamela M. Thomson

4. Roderie Wallace Fairweather they (#3 & #4) have piece of DNA on the same location. I don't know who they are, but must be related to me through the same branch of the tree.

5. Dorothy M. Elder

These five are the ones who show Scottish Blood lines who left Scotland about 70 to 100 after our group of Mackay.

It might be you will have other Scottish DNA which is in the same group.

Off hand, there are Haines, Lehew & Branson you should match.

Well, do you have Native American ancestry ?
Hey Dee Ann,

I sent an email to Cousin Howard Doster, who shares both McKay and Steer ancestry to see if he'd be willing to submit a sample to the Family Tree database.

He descends from Moses McKay (Andrew, Robert Jr., Robert Sr.) and Abigail Shinn and also shares Steer ancestry. He goes through Hannah (Steer) Sexton. Mine are from Ruth (Steer) Jackson & Isaac Steer (siblings of Hannah respectively).

I believe Mary Meritt has order two kits. I hope Daryl McKay will consider order a sample.

Our line of Jacob McKay Sr. is well represented, but would be nice to get other descends of Robert Jr. to join in the fun !!

I would love to find out if any of Hubert McKay's descends would be willing to turn in a sample. I believe they have a triple line of descend from Robert Sr.

Can you tell from the Mackay project if there are any new signups for kits for Robert Mackay descendants? I posted a message on the Collett-McKay Picnic Facebook I set up about the need to get more test samples from Mackay descendants. I wonder how many took up on the offer.

Mary Meritt has ordered two kits for her two uncles. She has also transfered her Ancestry Autosomal Test to Family Tree DNA.

I still have 82 pages on Ancestry to look through to see if there are any real interesting matches.

I find it odd that my son shows no matches with his distant known McKay cousins: Linda F. Rogers, Brian W. Beck & Glen Jo. Hill. He does match with Michael L. McKay on #1 & #15. So he has picked up that part of my gene pool for McKay & Sowers.

Out of the five Mackay/McKay living in Canada, New Zealand or Australia he shows matches with three of them: Pamela M. Thomson, Roderic W. Fairweather & Margaret Macphail.

On my mother's side quick look he matches with James F. Hopgood, John W. Mayberry & Mona Gail Romans.

No Derryberry.

On his Population Finder, his map looks just like his father's, which I find strange.
My eldest son Travis Dee Buck will be joining me, my husband and his brother in Family Tree DNA. I will be interested to see if he picks with more from one family than his brother.

Mary Meritt drove from OK to TX to bring the two test kits to Kenneth McKay & Jerry McKay.

Their line

Robert Mackay Sr. his youngest son
Moses Mackay m. Mary Jobe
Abraham McKay m. Rachel Odell
Jeremiah McKay m. Isabella...........?
James Roger McKay m. Catherine Stuart
Jeremiah McKay m. Addie C.C. Tipton
Calvin McKay
Kenneth & Jerry McKay ones tested.

Junior McKay I believe down line from Robert, Moses & Abraham. I have Autosomal Match B. Beck down the line of Junior McKay another generation then branching off.

I would like to see more of the sons of Moses tested, but then this is not my direct line. I have my DNA test results to confirm my link back to Thomas Buck McKay for sure.
