In my shameless bid in asking for money to help with the costs of running the website & forum I want to break down the annual amounts we are charged with for keeping everything afloat:

Website = $119.40
Forum = $ 69.90
_________________
Total = $189.30

We have an account that is set up for the Website, Forum and Newsletter so all money that gets put in it goes towards those things & when the need arises to secure a site for the VA McKay Reunion.

If you would like to make a donation to help with the costs please make it payable to The Robert Mackay Clan & mail it to Michael L. McKay, 115 Morgan St., Winchester, VA 22601-3829.

Thank you.

Could you be willing to turn in Autosomal test? That I would pay for.

What is the autosomal test? How do I go about doing that? Is it with Family Tree DNA?

If you email me privately I will give you my account and pass word for my Autosomal Sample so you can see what you will be getting.

The test breaks down your DNA into your various ethical groups. Family Tree DNA only goes down to 3% make up. Other researchers do not see this part of your test results. Call Population Finder. This part of the test will tell if you really have Native American ancestry.

When you release your results they will give you all your matches from all parts of your tree, not just the male line. This is how I have found 7th & 8th McKay Cousins, one from James Sr. & one from Moses Sr. This call Match Results.

So through Autosomal DNA test three researchers from the three sons of Robert Sr.: Robert Jr., James Sr. & Moses Sr. are showing shared DNA through lines not just male, like Y marker test does. We do not have to wait for males members of the family to turn in their Y marker tests!.

Researchers like myself who know I have McKay ancestry, but not a male descendant, I have proven my McKay ancestry through my own efforts. You will have more control with all your blood lines.

It is up to each researcher to place in their profile the surnames they are researching. Very helpful if they do so. You can send in your pedigree chart, which I do not know how to do. This is how I accounted for the Moses line. The line from James Sr, through e-mail exchange with the researcher.

I am sure my account with Ancestry has other distant McKay cousins, but I am having trouble openning up the various researchers samples.

Chromosome Comparison will show you by each chromosome where you match up the other researchers. And you can match the samples of four researchers at once to see if they match as well.

I hope in the future to find people who descend from the daughters of said Robert Mackay Sr. The Y Marker test can not do this.

We are 3rd cousins once removed from Thomas B. McKay
5th cousins once removed from Daniel Sowers
6th cousins once removed again from Daniel Sowers (my double line)
6th cousins once removed from Cary Mitchell
7th cousins once removed from Richard Hunt

The Y marker test can not show us the above DNA relationship between us just Autosomal.

My first cousin once removed James F. Hopgood--we share 7 chromosome markers. The closer the relationship the more you will share. I am guessing but we would share five or six different markers. How we can separate which marker belongs to our McKay or Sowers I do not know. Hapologroups are not given.

With these McKay living in places other than US, it would be very interesting if your sample hit on these people as well and which chromosome is shared.

If paying only the cost of $99 I can through Autosomal DNA really find the home town of Robert Mackay Sr., do you not think that is money well spend!.

This DNA test will give you total enlightenment in connection with ALL your blood lines, not just your main male line.

I can try to go on line and order the kit. I have a $10 off next test ordered.

I might have to call them and I do not know if they are open on Saturday.

Let me have your kit number. You will want to have the results posted in your Y Marker Test.

Takes about 6 weeks to get the test posted

I can just order a kit on line and when you turn it in be sure to tell them you already have an account.

If not you will just have two different web pages to remember the numbers.

You will really like this test more than your Y web site.

Later.

You can always change the pass word which I assume will be send to my e-mail address.

I've put a donation button on the home page of the website for anyone interested in helping me pay the costs of running it. I've taken under consideration of allowing online donations through Paypal but I'm still researching this.

Plus, depending on how much we could raise we could also help fund some of these DNA kits for those who want to be tested but cannot afford the price.
