I check Family Tree DNA for the spelling of MacKay/McKay as McCoy, some of the family members removed south changed the spelling of the name:

Ten researcher which match my DNA profile have McCoy as surnames: Glen Lewis Graves, Elizabeth A. Graves, James M. Elster, Michael G. Staley, Lyman L. Ritter, Ann S. Wexler, Jean S. Bergeson, Brett Arnett, Todd D. Duke & Peter McCoy Davis.

Somewhere in their trees I share with them DNA. But the question is, do we come from the same group of McCoy or Mackay/McKay.

Using the profiles of my known distant McKay cousins: Linda Franks Rogers & Brian W. Beck, as a filter-- none of the above people share DNA with either of them. So I take away from this, these people are studying a different family. Their McCoy is not relationed with my Mackay/McKay.
Family Tree DNA researcher Jean Bergeson and I share #10 9.01 and my son Brandan 8.31. She has a different McCoy than our Mackay and she has Stout ancestry, but it would appear I do not.

We descend from Ambrose Dudley Sr. she through son Ambrose Jr. and I through daugther Mary and my blood line goes down to my Jett ancestry.

Three remaining MacKay who showed matches to my DNA profile

Pamela M. Thompson on #15 can'tget amount lived in Glasgow & New Zealand

Roderic W. Fairweather on #15 lived in Glasgow then New Zealand

Margaret Macphail on #21 Glasgow, England, NJ & Canada

G.T. H. Shaw on #12 lived in Glasgow & Canada

All these people families lived "across the pond" long after my families had left. Seem to have a connection with Glasgow

Mrs. Dorothy M. Elder pointed out three other researchers match me on #22 & #21

1. Molly Hanson on #22 families listed Italy, Canada & Suffolk, England

2. Iva Jo Carlson on #22 she might be a distant Hampton cousin and not member of our Mackay family

3. Becky Hughes on #21 as NC & TN, she could be related to my mother's mother family and not member of our Mackay/McKay family.

Since the DNA in two other cases pointed to a connection with our Robert MacKay Sr.: Linda Evans & Brian W. Beck and I have since proven it, there must be a connection with our Robert MacKay back in Scotland.

Time will tell.
Family Tree DNA researcher Janet Joyce Kelly we share DNA material #1 14.38 (lot for distant cousin) and #9 6.2 (points to a distant cousin).

Her listing of surname/families living in England, Scotland or New Zealand, no mention of US location.

My sons have not picked up any of this DNA material.

Found Ancestry DNA Project "RWS" descends from Ann Dudley daughter of Maj. Ambrose Dudley (1649-1715) wife of John J. Wright (1680 York VA-1752 MA?).

I descend from said Ambrose Dudley & Anne Foster through daughter Mary Dudley who married John Hutchinson. This piece of DNA goes down to my Jett family and into Pilcher.

I do not think her Wright family is the same as my group.

Also has Wm. R. Taylor born 1820 SC married........? through son Wm. Kirkland Taylor (1845-1911). Not sure if one of my two different groups of Taylor Families.

Through Family Tree DNA Path Finder a researcher Dorothy Margaret Elder and I show a DNA with surname Mackay.

Her oldest named McKay-- Ann McKay daughter of Ann Provost of Killearnan, Ross & Cromarty in 1766. I would say about 4 generation later than our Robert Mackay.

I told her of your web site and hope she will give us more information. I did inform her we have the Y marker of our Robert Mackay.

Now-- if one of our other known descendants of Robert MacKay would submitt a sample to their Family Path Founder, it would be VERY interesting to see if that sample also matched her.

I thought this test only went back 5 generations, but perhaps some of the DNA lines might go back farer.

You can google said town, I do not think the parish records go back as far as we shall need.
Ancestry DNA Project researcher "ryanwalker118" his tree Ryan Walker Family descend of Alexander McKay born 1793 Craignish Argyll, Scotland. He appears to have some problems with birth dates down his line or just entered in the wrong line of dates. His line ends up in PA.

The DNA link with him could be with his Edwards line. He need to get his line back a few more generation to see if links up with my in VA. His oldest given Joseph Edwards born 1790 SC died 1863.

He also has Violetts Reynolds born 1700 Essex Co. VA. Need more information if the DNA link is with this group.

If any other known descend of Robert Mackay has their DNA filed with Ancestry, it would be use to see if you/they are also matching with this researcher.

I now have 209 pages of matches with Ancestry DNA Project. I guess I must have "special DNA" to being having all these links with other DNA profiles.

Through Y Marker Test we have proven as sons of Robert MacKay SR: Robert, James & Moses. Missing a sample for poor Zachariah. That I am aware !!

We have firmly established his (Robert Sr.) Y marker numbering pattern. So male Mackay/McKay researchers trying to link their line back in time just have to do a DNA test to see if this group of MacKay are their line. This is the first step in doing genealogy work. Simple test will safe you so much time and money !!

If you know you are a member of this family and can not get your male relations to do a Y marker test or you descend through female line, not to worry.

Through Autosomal tests now on file with Family Tree DNA (that I am aware) three samples one descendant of Robert Jr. (me), James Sr. (Linda Evans) & Moses Sr. (Brian W. Beck) all are showing matching DNA. These are my 7th or 8th cousins.

Mary Meritt has a sample on file through Ancestry's same program. And I also have an account with them. I will be searching this site in future for McKay cousins. Or others can help in this effort.

I hope out there in "Genealogy Land" descendants of the daughters of Robert Sr.: Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Leah & Hannah have turn in samples and I am not aware. Or if you descend from one of them doing the above test can establish your McKay line.

Just a word that you have a test on file would help others trying to sort out their own family history.

Ancestry DNA Project researcher Jelogue20 his tree James Logue Family Tree, looking for the parentage of Enoch Jobe Jr. born 1755 VA died 1843 Cole Co. MO m. ..............? not given through his daughter Hannah Job born 1781 died Van Buren Co. TN. She married Wm. Marrs Logue

I do not have that this Enoch had a daughter named Hannah. He removed from VA to MO and this line would appear to have lived in TN.

In any case, I believe this researcher is a descend of Robert Mackay Sr's daughter Margaret Mackay who married Joshua Jobe they had Enoch Sr. & Moses. I think more works need to be done to be sure which line this researcher descends.
