Yep. We assume the connection we have with the other McKay cousins is from shared McKay ancestry but could easily be from one of the other families. Who is to say with some of them like Jobe and Ridgeway that there is a Scottish connection prior to the immigrant. I know Ridgeway goes back a few generations in England.
With a lot of our Quaker ancestors who were members of that Society at the time of their removal, we know the name of the village they lived in GB.

So in the future if others really have traced their line back to the same location, then we will be able to account for some of these DNA matches back to same location.

Through Y Marker Test we have proven as sons of Robert MacKay SR: Robert, James & Moses. Missing a sample for poor Zachariah. That I am aware !!

We have firmly established his (Robert Sr.) Y marker numbering pattern. So male Mackay/McKay researchers trying to link their line back in time just have to do a DNA test to see if this group of MacKay are their line. This is the first step in doing genealogy work. Simple test will safe you so much time and money !!

If you know you are a member of this family and can not get your male relations to do a Y marker test or you descend through female line, not to worry.

Through Autosomal tests now on file with Family Tree DNA (that I am aware) three samples one descendant of Robert Jr. (me), James Sr. (Linda Evans) & Moses Sr. (Brian W. Beck) all are showing matching DNA. These are my 7th or 8th cousins.

Mary Meritt has a sample on file through Ancestry's same program. And I also have an account with them. I will be searching this site in future for McKay cousins. Or others can help in this effort.

I hope out there in "Genealogy Land" descendants of the daughters of Robert Sr.: Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Leah & Hannah have turn in samples and I am not aware. Or if you descend from one of them doing the above test can establish your McKay line.

Just a word that you have a test on file would help others trying to sort out their own family history.

Found on Ancestry DNA descend of Zachariah's daughter through Dorcus who married Samuel Job. Karen Kuschel Dotson.

So finally I have a DNA match with Zachariah to his brothers.

As far as know we have 5 Y marker test done: 3 for Robert Jr., 1 for James Sr. & Moses Sr.

Found in Ancestry DNA program Autosomal Robert Jr. two entries, Moses Sr. two entries, Zachariah two entries, Margaret one entry & Hannah Mckay one entry.

The majority of researchers turn in Mackay or McKay test were not directly related to Robert Sr. So either we share DNA way back in Scotland, or the DNA match is from another blood line, I am not aware.

Researcher state their ancestor were living in Scotland, Ireland & Canada, about the same mix as I found among Family Search DNA Family Finder.

Since we're matching with other known descendants of Robert Mackay Sr. could it be possible that the matches are the result of other Quaker families we share common ancestry with like Antrim, Job or Ridgeway?
I have a break down for all our Quaker Families from Ancestry Autosomal site. I have not found all of them on Family Tree DNA site--like Lippincott family.

Through Family Tree DNA Path Finder a researcher Dorothy Margaret Elder and I show a DNA with surname Mackay.

Her oldest named McKay-- Ann McKay daughter of Ann Provost of Killearnan, Ross & Cromarty in 1766. I would say about 4 generation later than our Robert Mackay.

I told her of your web site and hope she will give us more information. I did inform her we have the Y marker of our Robert Mackay.

Now-- if one of our other known descendants of Robert MacKay would submitt a sample to their Family Path Founder, it would be VERY interesting to see if that sample also matched her.

I thought this test only went back 5 generations, but perhaps some of the DNA lines might go back farer.

You can google said town, I do not think the parish records go back as far as we shall need.
A researcher found on Ancestry DNA project "heyjude623" people do not like to use their names, shows a DNA match of material.

He or she e-mail me back that Jesse McKay (female) born 1853 according to Scottish census, lived in Dores which is just south of Inverness, Scotland. Stated that "None of my Scottish ancestors left Scotland before the early 1900's as far as I have been able to tell through my research"

Just another DNA match that must go back 15 generations into Scotland.

I send you a copy of his chart with * by each first name means I have found Autosomal DNA match with that particular blood line down to me.

So I have proven by DNA my link with Thomas Buck McKay, but other McKay researchers can not just take my results and claim the same thing.

If you look at T.B. McKay ancestry, I believe only his McKay & Ann Brown were of Scottish ancestry.

All the others were English or Welsh Quakers and for the most part we know the village they came from.

On Ancestry I have found matches with his families: Antrim, Borden, Bradshaw, Brown (? other family), Budd, Collins, Core (three matches but private), Crispin, Garwood, Haines, Horseman, Jobe, Matlack, Penn, Ridgeway, Scholey, Stockton, Taylor, Vernon, Woolston, Wright & Zelley.

A number of the Jobe researcher did have McKay ancestry. Same true with Odell researcher, decendants of Moses Sr. to son Abraham in Cocke Co. TN.

Received this e-mail from him, his e-mail walkthebird@bigpond.com

Greetings Dee Ann from Australia:

My sister, Dorothy Margaret Elder, has done a Family Finder test and we are having fun looking through the results for long lost cousins !

I am a close match to a Robert McDonald and he is connected in to this

familyhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/history/scottishroots/

My sister and I seem to link into this family through a couple of connections but don't know how. We do have many ancestors from the western area of Scotland.

You an Robert seem share a stretch of chromosome 22. I am wondering if you and he are a close match and if you may have any connection to the above family in the link?

A long shot but thought I would give it a try !

Best wishes
Rob McIntosh

I looked and I do not see a match with said Robert McDonald, but matched with said Dorothy M. Elder.

Found Shenandoah Co. VA Will Book E, page183 dated 3 Dec 1797, wife Mary receives slave name named Joe, only named one son as William.

I have a copy of it in my McKay book dated 1997. We have the names of his eight children. I have not been contacted by any branch of his family.

There are Autosomal test results found in Ancestry for descends of his sister through Dorcus.
