I am aware of a John Mckay/Mackay who came into Shenandoah Co. VA area from Northumberland Co. VA purchased his land from Lord Thomas FAIRFAX. He was about generation between our Robert Sr. & his children. So I do not think related to our group. If we knew a DNA test was done on his male descendants we would know for sure.

I am still looking for the parentage of Asia (sic) McKay who married in Frederick Co. MD and I believe most likely the father of Floyd McKay who removed to IN. I have placed posting about the surname that I have found in Frederick Co. MD records here on Michael's site. I BELIEVE they came into that area from Mongtomery or Prince George Co. MD. Mostly likely came into present day US into Baltimore, MD. I do not know if any McKay who lived in MD are now part of the Family DNA Project for Mackay.

I have found the surname in early Philadelphia, PA and will be looking to see if they removed down to VA.

I have 11 films dealing with Montgomery Co. PA, if I find interesting items for McKay surname will share that information.

At the moment I am doing Shenandoah Co. VA Land Deeds 1792-1810, so I hope to find records if McKay came down from PA or MD into Shenandoah Co. VA well after our group of McKay arrived.

If the Mackay DNA evidence already collected was released to the public by oldest known ancestor and location, that would be very helpful to researchers who really want to sort out all these different Mackay/ect.....

Same is true for Sower/Sowers surname, lots of them living in PA & MD a generation after my Jacob Sowers arrived to Winchester, VA. There are only three Sowers DNA samples on file, but those results are not shared with the public. I suspect these are totally different groups of Sowers.

I posted earlier a longer response to your posting, but it was dumped.

We have a DNA for the profile of Robert Mackay Sr. Check out Family Tree DNA for listing of surname McKay.

That's the first I would do if researching any surname.

Some of your other questions will be answered by reading my earlier postings.
I received a form letter from Mackay Manager, that they are going to group the test results in better order. Very good news. They want each kit owner to send in your Gedcom File and to consider updating samples to 68 marker test.

This is very welcomed news.

Hi - my name is Shaun Thomas McKay. I am a descendent of Robert Mackay Sr. through Missouri and into Chicago, IL. My genealogy is Robert MacKay Sr, Moses MacKay, Jeremiah McKay Sr, Jeremiah Mckay Jr, Jeremiah Thomas McKay, Thomas Oswell McKay, Benjamin G McKay, Thomas Glenn McKay and myself (I actually have a 2 year old son, Tristan Cole Rhys McKay, so the line continues).

First off, I want to thank everyone that has put the time in and done the research to put all this important information out there for us McKays to learn about our history.

So recently I decided to do the whole genealogy thing and found all this McKay information. Almost overwhelming. I have always been told "stories" of my family history. My aunt also has a lot of info. But from my research, and based on the questions of where Robert MacKay Sr came from, the newer information on the first wife being Ann Brown, our information is problem not accurate any longer

I have been reading as much as possible on Robert MacKay Sr and the anomly that is his early life. Is there any new information about R McKay Sr's early life? Where he might be from? Any definite information about Ann Brown? I saw a listing that says we have information of a Robert McKay in Freehold NJ, in 1705. Is that still the earliest information we have on R McKay Sr life? Can you point me in the right direction? Books to read that might help?

I was also thinking, how does R McKay Sr show up in Virginia, become a prominent land owner / seller, but we have virtually no information on his early life? Could there be more to it than that? Could Robert have changed his name (hopefully that question is not blasphemy)? Could he have been more prominent in NJ, but got into trouble and needed to move on?

I do understand the fact that information may be hard to come by from the 1600, and that Robert McKay may be a common name.

Oh, and I was recently in Scotland (May 2011) and was proud to say I was a McKay.

Anyways, any feedback would be great.

Sincerely,

Shaun
I know there are at least three Autosomal Test results on Ancestry for your line. My line from Robert brother to your Moses we would be like 10th cousins. But I am matching with all these distant MacKay/McKay cousins.

My sample is also on Family Tree DNA and Michael will be join me end of Dec ? My son Brandan will be on this site end of Jan. This DNA site does have Chromosome Browser, which is important in determing if two researchers share more than one ancestor.

If your sample is on Family Tree DNA, e-mail me your kit number and pass word and I will update your sample. I do not believe you would need additional samples.
