Lorin Snyder
My quest for finding out the parentage of my great-great-grandmother Sarah E. Snyder is almost done. Before DNA I was "dead in the water" in Union Co. KY.
Researcher "g.t" has another one of her surnames MAYER back into Germany. His oldest known ancestor Melchior Mayer born 1495 Gross, Schsenheim, Wurttemberg, Germany.
It is my policy to find the emigrate ancestor and leave foreign research to others.
Sarah E. Snyder oldest known MAYER in US was:
1. Anna Maria Mayer born 1 Jan 1719 Habitzheim, Hesse, Germany died 29 Oct 1768 Frederick Co. MD married to Michael Bissinger. I have DNA matches with other Bissinger researchers.
2. Maria Magdalena Bissinger b. 15 Mar 1731 Ensweingen, Germany died 10 Feb 1810 Frederick Co. MD m. Jacob Snyder. I have Snyder & Wentz DNA matches
3. Daniel Snyder born 1763 Germantown, Philadelphia, PA d. c1819 Bethel, Bedford Co. PA m. Catherine Zumwalt. I have DNA matches with Zumwalt, Hiatt & Jacobs
4. Peter Snyder born c1799 Bethel, Bedford Co. PA d. before 1850 Henderson Co. KY census m. Catherine Shobe. I have DNA matches with Schaub/Shobe, Bush, Stingley & Bosserdt.
5. Sarah E. Snyder born 1837 location could be Hamilton Co. OH or KY m. 2 Jul 1862 Morganfield, Union KY to George G. Hopgood. I am 90% sure she was an only child, so finding any siblings not possible. I have DNA match with my first cousin once removed James F. Hopgood. I have various Thather matches, but I have not figured out the ancestry of Martha Thatcher. My first cousin Robb/Hopgood has a sample with Ancestry DNA but it is "locked".
Each day I receive many new matches through Ancestry DNA project, so I am hopeful new leads will turn up.
Who are the Bissinger ancestors of the researchers who have DNA records out there? That family has been a tough nut to crack and I've wondered if other Bissingers in the family emigrated to America. Magdalena (Bissinger) Snyder's grandparents were Albanus & Anna Rosina Bissinger and her parents were Michael & Anna Maria (Mayer) Bissinger. I note that you have Anna Maria's death as 1768 in Frederick Co., Md. I have not found a death record for Anna Maria in Enzweihingen, but it appears Michael was a widower when he remarried there to Justina Zeller in 1756.

I have placed on my tree Ancestry all the various Autosomal Matches I have found on Ancestry Family Finder and Family Tree DNA Family Finder.
Of Jacob Snyder's children I have matches with: Maria Elizabeth, John, Daniel (mine could be three) and Barbara.
If you do your Lodewick that would make five or you do not match ?
You will have to do your to see if you match.
Still searching for my Snyder Y marker, there are so many different groups.

That's great that you've found matches with Elizabeth, John and Barbara! Which John Snyder was the connection? The one who died in Kentucky or in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania?
I have not done the DNA project yet but I do intend to do so now. When I get the results I will pass them along. Otherwise, it is my understanding that a descendant of Maria Elizabeth already matched her DNA with another descendant of Ludwick's (through his daughter Mary).
I'm not sure what the Y marker and groups mean just yet. I'll have to look into all the parameters of DNA research results before I get mine back!

Just traces the male line to a common male ancestors. The male descends of say Jacob Snyder who died in Frederick Co.MD would have to have the same set of numbers.
Family Tree DNA has a listing of the Snyder/Snider Y markers turned in to them. Some men pass their results through to their Y Search and you can directly e-mail them directly.

If others DNA kits who come from the line of Jacob Snyder are in the gene pool--names and which bank?. My DNA profile just in Ancestry Family Finder and Family Tree DNA Finder.

I just came across your post regarding your Snyder ancestry. I am a descendant of Jacob & Magdalena (Bissinger) Snyder, through their son Ludwick Snyder. I am very interested in discussing our research - I see you are a descendant of Daniel Snyder. I was surprised to see that you list his place of death as Bedford County.
Hi Lorin,
Have seen your name on several web pages concerning the Snyder genealogy. I am also related thru Ludwick/John/Simon/John d. Oklahoma/George/Alvin/Sylvia my mother. Would love to have a copy of any information on the family.
I am confused about the Ludwig Schneider birth record on familysearch.org, as Jacob Schneider and Catharina. I am looking to see where the records are and if they are available for research.I live about 50 miles from Hagerstown MD.
Any help on line would be great.
Thanks

Since we know our Jacob Sowers was in Winchester, VA by 1732, I would expect to see him on the various listing of Sower/Sowers coming into VA after 1717. No Jacob Sowers listed for the right time period.
Or if his father was the one who was the emigrate. The only Sower/Sowers who arrived early enough would be:
John Sower in ship "Adventure Galley" to PA on 2 Oct 1727. Capt. John Davies. A complete listing found on the net for this ship. I do not believe if he arrived with family those names would appear on the list. Some of the lists I have seen do have males listed over 18 years of age, in which case our Jacob should be listed under said John Sower, if he was his father. No Jacob Sowers found.
There were various different Sower, Sowers, Sour etc.....coming into PA after 1717 down to 1750. I see no evidence we should think they are blood relations. DNA study could start to answer that question.
Until I find further evidence, I think Jacob or his father arrived into PA before 1717.
I have lots of film & fiche to read for early PA, perhaps something will turn up.
Since we know our Jacob Sowers (no middle name)was a Calvinist. The areas where this sect lived in Germany or Europe were few. One location I think we should look into the town of Worms of Rhineland-Palatinate. This was an area where Calvinist did live in Germany.
Hesse-Kassel and Brandenburg two other areas of Germany where Calvinist Sect lived. All the other location researchers have placed on their tree I am sure they do not really have documentation but they are just copying other computer files.
If you really have the location of Jacob Sowers birth place (do not rule out PA) then put your sources in print.
