Your Amelia Ritenour's marriage record has she was the daughter of Daniel & Mary Ritenour. Unless there were two Daniel Ritenour one married to a Mary and the other to Frances, I think your Amelia will have more half-brothers & sisters, than whole siblings.

Her husband John Mumaw, found 1850 Frederick Co. VA census as: Margaret Muma born 1794, John born 1828, two siblings: Susan 20 years & Wm. 18 years.

A lot of different spellings for your surname, or a lot of different families living in the same area.

From his first marriage with Mary (can't find her maiden name) had Amelia/Emilia born 15 Apr 1830 married to your John Wm. Mumaw.

Sophia Ritenour b. 1834 married 15 May 1851 in Shenandoah Co. VA Jackson Steed. I think she was the full sister of your Amelia. I can't find others at the moment. Her father given as Daniel.

From 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1880 census and marriage records for Shenandoah Co. VA Daniel & his wife Frances b. 1815 VA had at least eight children:

1. Joel Wm. Ritenour b. 1835 m. 1 Jan 1860 to Martha Ann Shuff
2. Anna Ritenour b. 1841
3. George A. Ritenour b. 1845
4. Daniel M. Ritenour b. 1847
5. Samuel Ritenour b. 1848
6. Atwell Ritenour b. 1850 m. 21 Oct 1877 Lucy A. Bauserman
7. Franklin P. Ritenour b. 1853, m. 20 Sep 1877 Julia Ann Good
8. Isaac R. Ritenour b. 1856 m. 22 Nov 1879 Anna E.S. Reedy

I have not found off hand the names of your Daniel's parents or siblings.

Question does this family have various spellings of the surname: Rittenour, Ritenour & Ridenour ?
Hello If you want info on the Ritenour family check out Otho ?sp Ritenour's history on the web to the 1400's or Genealogy.com on GenForm for lots of info. My mother was a Ritenour and there is a Ritenour reunion at the Double churches in Stephens City VA the 2nd Sunday in June each year. The Daniel Ritenout you mention is from this area and connected to my family..Good Luck Gary

Index to the actual records on one group of film and then you can order the records on film through your local library and get copies of the death record.

So it looks like I will have lots of new records to view.

I can only order five films at a time and I have five in the pipe line already. Then I want to order Shenandoah Co. VA Marriage Records.

I might put this project first.

1. Priscilla Ann (Bridges) Shipp died about c1920, so I want to see her name on the index. She is not buried next to her husband, but I think she was buried next to her husband and the family did not pay to mark her name on the grave stone already in place.

2. George H. Sowers died 1919

3. Bushrod P. Edwards died 1919

4. My grandfather W.E. Shipp had four siblings who died as infants, might to to late to have their names included.

I will place a posting when I order this new film.
Finally found the original death record for my gr-gr-grandmother Priscilla Ann (Bridges) Shipp.

Found on State of PA Department of Health index for death ceriticates:

21 Jan 1929 Shipp, Precello A. (sic) #1169

Now will try to get a copy of the actual record from State of PA. To find her burial place.

You can join paid a PA site for $34 yearly, said to have original records on line.

Found on Ancestry the same information, but the researcher did not name her source and then others copied her information but copied the year wrong as 1920.

These records might also yield the names of some of my grandfather's Walter E. Shipp's siblings.

I was aware that Mathias H. Shipp (my great-grandfather) lived in Pittsburg, PA for several years and his brothers also lived in that location. My guess is after the death of Priscilla's husband she lived with one of said sons.

Why they did not bury her next to her husband in VA?. Might not find the answer to that question.

Ancestry has Death Records on line for the State of PA and VA which I need for my Shipp Family. The "Family Tale" was that my grandfather had two brothers and two sisters who died young. I have unnamed pictures of infants among Shipp Pictures. There was some tale about how Virginia Lee Shipp was saved by a doctor who thought her other siblings died due to unfit water in Culpeper Co. VA. Well all four of the siblings were born and died in Pittsburg, Allegheny Co. PA. Now I have their names three sister and one brother of my late grandfather Walter E. Shipp.

1. Nellie Shipp born 16 Aug 1905 died 22 Apr 1908 of measles
2. Ella Marie Shipp born 1 Mar 1908 d. 21 Mar 1908 valvular disease of heart
3. Infant Female Shipp born 17 Jan 1912 d. 21 Mar 1913 malnutrition
4. Albert Shipp born 15 Feb 1914 d. 22 Aug 1914 cholera

None died for the same reason and nothing to do with something in the water.

Ancestry also has VA Death Records on line for the taking. I spend a lot of time in the past making copies from film for 25 cents, now all can be done at home computer. How times have changed!!
