Hello Mike,

I've seen your web site and am impressed! In searching for information on my Buck ancestors, I came across your work on the Bethel Baptist Church. My research shows that my ancestors, Charles Buck & his brother, Thomas were followers, as were all their family, of Rev Ireland who apparently started this church. I wonder if there are records that I can access that might shed some light on the son of Charles Buck, Samuel Mountjoy Buck & his wife, Mary Pierce Bayly. I have made 2 trips to Front Royal/Buckton and 1 trip to Shenandoah County seat researching (I live in Louisiana). I've had a researcher go to the courthouse in Hopkinsville, Kentucky where their son, Thomas lived, possibly as early as 1836, but at least from 1841 until 1862.

I found that Thomas purchased property shortly after each of his parent's death...but no evidence of where they were living or where they died.

I have found that Samuel sold the Buck Mill he had run all his adult life (& the property, to his cousin Thomas Fayette Buck)...but, I cannot find if they left the area (no records indicate they joined their siblings or their children in Kentucky or Mississippi). If they stayed, there is not another bit of evidence after 1830...no will, no estate settlement, nothing...just that Samuel Mountjoy Buck died in 1841 & Mary Pierce Bayly Buck died in 1844.

I have searched Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee, Mississippi...anyplace there were relatives. And I can't find them on any censuses. No records of death. No records of taxes. No records of estate settlement. No records of purchasing more land. Nothing. They just disappeared.

I'm hopeful that church records may reveal something about their whereabouts. Any information you might have, I'd surely appreciate.

Thanks,
Marion Drennen

If you response to this posting I will send more information about your direct line of Buck. Post your line here, so I will not waste time telling you what you already have.

My husband Irvin P. Buck Jr. was not a member of this family. His family from Baltimore,MD.

I have information dealing with the descendants of Charles Buck, because they intermarried with my Branson,Lehew & McKay families.

I have posted my listing of books dealing with Fauquier Co. VA, there are bits & pieces of Buck records found in those books.

My Frederick Co. VA land deed & wills have records dealing with Buck Family.

Frederick Land Deeds 1-10 1743-1765 $20.00
Frederick Land Deeds 11-20 1765-1785 $35.00
Frederick Land Deeds 21-26 1785-1800 $25.00
Frederick Land Deeds 27-35 1800-1814 $28.00
Frederick Land Deeds 36-44 1814-1821 $30.00
Frederick Land Deeds 45-53 1821-1828 $30.00
Frederick Land Deeds 54-62 1828-1834 $30.00
Frederick Land Deeds 63-70 1834-1842 $28.00
Frederick Wills 1743-1816 $20.00 only one left
Frederick Wills 1816-1837 $20.00
Frederick Wills 1837-1865 $20.00

I am finding Buck people mentioned in Shenandoah Co. VA Land Deeds

Another location has Buck information

Warren Co. VA Birth 1853-1895 $20.00
Warren Co. VA Death out of print, has Buck entries
Warren Co. VA Marriage 1854-1880 $12.00
Warren Co. VA Land Deeds 1836-1861 $25.00

You will want to find a copy of D. Borden cemetery book which has listing of Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA. Whole family groups of Buck families buried in this cemetery with their allied families.

If interested in my books send check or money order to me

The records for this group of Buck are in available for reading in these location in VA. I have seen their records in Union Co. KY. I have not looked for them in TN. However, I see Peter Chew Buck in TN census. Some counties records have burned or otherwise not available.

State of VA does have the Chancery Suit Records on line, some of the counties' files are available on line to read. Other just indexed.

In any case your Buck family members were land owners & slave owners, which means you should be able to trace them through the records.

I believe Michael had a link to a Buck Family Computer Bank. I would be very careful using information from this kind of source.

I hope you will consider adding your D.N.A. sample to Family Tree D.N.A project. I do not believe any of your Buck male members have submitted a sample.

Good luck with your research.
