I received an e-mail from Joel Sowers:

"Responding to you post of July 11,2010. My Sowers line was Frederick County, MD, where yours is VA. But I do have DNA, so if you are successful in getting DNA from your VA Sowers I would like to compare. My John Sowers died in 1745 in MD. Three of his children, including my ancestor Jacob Sowers moved to Floyd County, VA around 1790"

What about it, any of our Sowers, would like to submit a sample through Family Tree DNA to help with our research.

I see Ancestry.com DNA section has only one Sowers listed:

Kirkland Sowers (living) R 1b

Personally I would not use their service, because I believe they have a smaller data base.

Submit your sample to Family Tree DNA

Under Sowerby have two Sowers listed

John Sower died 1785 G

Philipus Sowers (Sauer) born c1733 in Katzenback, Germany, m. C. Faust R1b1A2
This item is the first public record, I am aware of, that states the actual location in Germany the surname is found.

Researchers who have Y marker of Sowers (various spelling) have to take charge of their own D.N.A. study. I do not have the necessary "spit" to take the lead.

I have some items I will post about the Sower in Frederick Co. MD wills.

"Our" Jacob Sowers I do not believe directly related to the group in Frederick Co. MD. It would appear from legal records he did not travel with his brothers, uncles or cousin under the name of Sowers.

I think the surname will turn out to be a rather common name in Germany.

POsted on Ancestry DNA profile send in by Kirland Sowers Rlb and Mitochondrial H.

Items posted on Ancestry DNA does not show the oldest known ancestor or dates.

In any case connected with Sowers Surname "R" & "G". I am sure if others were tested we would have additional Haplogroups which shows that there were various different families using the same name.

If you would submit a sample to Ancestry Beta DNA study, my double line of SOWERS is now in their data base.

I am very interested in your "G" letter. Because I am now looking for my 18% Eastern European.
