I have set up a Donation Fund in the name of my grandmother Daisy Love McKay with Family Tree D.N.A under the name Mackay of course.

I wish they had an accounts for "our" Sowers, Kerfoot & Lehew families, but they do not.

I hope females who were born McKay in "our family" will consider ordering a starter kit from the company. At this point I have no idea if or now their Mitochondrial D.N.A. kits are posted to the public. If you take advantage of the fund, I do hope you post the results on Michael's site.

If I see good results I will add monies as we go along.

I want to upgrade to a 67 marker test as a couple of our cousins in the test group have also done but at this time I don't have the funds needed to persue this. Because of the current economic situation I have allowed my membership in our regional historical societies and also the Hollingsworth Society to expire. I don't have any immediate plans on renewing that one. I do however focus on the Website, Newsletter, Collett-McKay Picnic, VA McKay reunion and Bethel Memorial in where I sent my money. Plus we have the fund set up for Website and Newsletter & VA McKay reunion so that is also funded by others who contribute.

I think the Daisy Love McKay fund is a good idea. Perhaps it can help pay for testing of some of our cousins if people can just contribute a couple of dollars here and there.

I just send in the monies this morning. I do not know long it will take to show up on the site.

I do not know if I can make demands upon the manager of the Mackay project how to use the monies or not. I asked to be used by "The Descendants of Robert Mackay of early VA." I would like to see the grouping of the kit numbers by known family groups, but I guess that is not my call.

I would like the fund to be used by females as well, but I do not think that is possible.

What I want to see happen is that we expand the number of our McKay men with the 12 marker tests starting with the descends of Jacob Mckay & Elizabeth Antrim. I believe yours is the only one that has been tested. I would like to see a very strong show of support to help set the profile of Jacob Sr. and then move on the remaing descendants of Robert Jr. and then move to his other brothers.

Then see about upgrading the existing tests.

I just called it "Daisy Love McKay Fund" I am sure others could send in monies of their own and name it what they will. I just thought it would be nice to mention her name in connection with this effort. I thought about Hunter Branson McKay, but he was not my direct family member.

I just started with $200 and plan to add monies then I see results. The $200 would just about cover the cost of two 12 marker tests.

I will just wait to see the response, perhaps no one will be interested. Which I think is a real shame. If that is the case, yes you can use the funds to upgrade your test. Or you can privately e-mail me your Kit # & password and can upgrade your test sample directly.

The monies have been charged to my credit card, but I have not seen notice posted on Mackay Project Site. If interested in order the 12 marker D.N.A. e-mail the project manager.

I would like to see the four sons of Robert Mackay Sr.: Robert, James, Zachariah & Moses each to have 10 of their descendants D.N.A. markers posted. I think this is a reasonable goal.

Robert Jr. need 8 men to take the test
James need 9 men to take the test
Zachariah need all 10 men
Moses need 9 men

If you can document you are a male descendant of Robert Mackay Sr. through one of his four sons: Robert Jr., James, Zachariah or Moses, you qualify to receiving your "free" test 25 marker kit through

FamilyTreeDNA go to projects then Mackay

You must include on the form your oldest known ancestor: Robert Mackay Sr. through which son.

e-mail Bridget Kopetzky

bri.kop@verizon.net

As I see my Mckay Cousins using the service responsibility and the results posted on the site, then I will be adding funds two or three test kits at a time.

Others are welcome to help with this fund as well.

if you want to e-mail me your kit number and pass word, I will update your results to 111 markers. I do not know if you have to re-test or they use your on file sample.

I will e-mail you when it is done and you can then go into your account and change the pass word.

It is up to you.

Male descendants of Jacob McKay & Elizabeth Antrim would be my closest McKay cousins. My line Robert SR. to Robert Jr. to Jacob Sr, Jacob Jr. & said Jacob 2 Jr.

My grandmother was Daisy Love (McKay) Shipp and her brother Hunter B. McKay did have a male line. All the rest of her brothers did not have son/sons. Her sister Bessie L. McKay did marry her cousin Hubert F. McKay, but they had only daughters who lived.

Michael descends from the brother of said Daisy's father. As of now his is the closest male line.

Just a matter of building a firm foundation for my particular McKay line.

Okay. Just curious. I think its important to do what you are doing. I havent check much on the Moses line, son of Robert Sr., to see if anyone but me has done the dna test. I am trying to find out more on the moses key / allen key out of cheshire england (1700). But info is scarce out of england. Tracking moses key seems like another good option to figuring out our line.

Brian W. Beck's Autosomal is from Moses Mackay is in Family DNA. He has the Jobe as well.

Michael & I are from eldest son of Robert Sr.--Robert Jr. Now both in Family Tree DNA. Brandan Paul Buck is my son, so additional DNA from Robert Jr. I believe Gerard McKay will be joining us soon in Autosomal "Gene Pool". He already has his Y marker on file with Family Tree DNA.

Linda F. Rogers is from James Sr. line.

Could be other descendants of Moses Mackay in Family Tree DNA I have not figured them out as yet.

You do not need just Y markers to prove your MacKay line, now we can do it with Autosomal DNA results. Some times Family Tree DNA as a "sale" and offers Y marker test for $19. Now if you can't afford $19, then you need a new hobby.

My offer still stand "free" Y marker test for known descendants of Robert Sr. through sons: Robert, James, Zachariah & Moses. Those are the only sons he had !!

The Y marker pattern for Robert Mackay Sr. as been established.

Now with these Y marker test results and Autosomal DNA you can if male or female find that DNA link to the other descends of Robert Mackay Sr. of early NJ/PA/VA.
