This is the third DNA test which confirms the mtDNA test submitted by my father's 1st cousin. This would be the blood line of my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp.

23 & Me list it as Sub-Saharan African. Their Chromosome Browser has this piece of my DNA make up on #8 and it came from only one of my parents. This fact confirms what I thought that it came only through this one line on my father's side.

This test is the third test results which confirms the fact that all the family tales about "Indian Blood" is false.

Ancestry listed this piece of DNA as 1% Mali.

I hope someday to find the actual numbers associated with this "L" so I can have closure as to the path Genet Ray's mother took to Barbados. I believe my 5% Iberian is associated with this one line. For I do not see this racial group associated with my other lines of early NJ,PA,VA or NC.

Shows a match with me on 23 & Me. Her mtDNA given as L3b1a. This finally confirms my Family Finder DNA results and what I found 5 years ago for her on Ancestry DNA just as "L".

Now what I need are the numbers to see if the matches are where I think they are in Venezuela, Cuba and Barbados. Of course, I will be looking for matches in US.

Wm. Fortune Sr. received pension for his military service, his son Wm. Jr. hanged for murdering his second wife, I descend from his first wife. This is my Melton and Fortune line.

Heather Buck alive or dead?

Lots and lots of different Buck Families. My husband was German originally Bock. The Buck Family of Warren Co. VA that intermarried with my McKay, Branson and Lehew English from Matthew Co. VA early into the Valley.

Many different Buck settled in PA no relation with above Buck Families.

Other question, post them here. Will see what I can do for you.
Dee Ann Buck,

I have tracked down some of the Fortune descendants of John Fletcher Fortune and their GEDmatch IDs and thought you might find them useful if you didn't already know them.

Descended from John Fortune, descended from Williamson Fortune, descended from John Fletcher Fortune
Ron Fortune - T080272
I have Ron's contact information. His grandfather has a small trove of documents he got the hard way and best way.

The next two trace descent from Richard Fortune, the son of John Fletcher Fortune
Drew Glover - T929356
B. Fortune - T792650 (this is Drew's mother)

Descended from WIlliam Fortune (I believe through Abner Melton and Nancy Fortune)
Jason Crews - A678344

I have been in contact with Joan Fortune, daughter of Donald Fortune (believed to descend from Nicholas Fortune of Albemarle, but Joan has zero hard proof). I confirmed I do not match his ydna sequence. He originally tested at ancestry.com. I believe he did his ydna and auDNA there when they still did ydna tests. No GEDMatch id fo him.

I'm taking a deeper ydna test out to 67 markers. I originally tested to 37 markers and got an interesting and surprising result related to the Walden Surname Project. Due the the uniqueness of certain ydna markers, the project administrators have a high level of confidence there is a paternal relation with the Walden family sometime before 1700, possibly as far back as 1400-1500 prior to colonial America. The 67 marker test will help clarify if the MCRA is more recent or more distant and suggest which side of the ocean it was on. So far, I have found no other male Fortunes that match the unique Walden ydna subgroup. With so little information I don't know if this means my Fortune line started in England and immigrated or if there was a name change or an adoption or a mystery.

https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Wa ... ycolorized

I'm kit 636960 under the Raven Walden group.

I've confirmed lineage with several cousins back to William Macklin Fortune and his wife through paper trail and dna matching. I'm extremely confident that my GG grandfather and the GG grandmother of my cousins had the same parents.(William and his wife Margaret Fortune).

I'm looking at getting tax history and other records from around Richmond, VA , Chesterfield County, VA, and Hanover, County, VA as I located a couple of Fortune families from early 1800s and late 1700s.

I appreciate your help and advice. I'll share again when I have more information. I'm particularly interested in why I have several cousin matches with Michael Lehew McKay but not with Michael. I'll let you know when I have something more substantial. Again, with so little information....

-John

Since I do not have a Fortune Y marker kit to study, I really do not think we should believe we are related. I do not think my group of Fortune lived in your area of VA.

Lots of bad information on the net about my group of Fortune. John Fortune of early VA did not have middle name Fletcher. Modern researchers have just added that piece of information which is now all over the net.

I have Michael Lehew McKay tree on my Ancestry Tree, if you give me your cousins names I will see if I have them posted with locations.

Also Guy Derryberry tree information and his DNA kit # on Family Tree DNA

Good luck.

Hi Michael,

I discovered your message board several months back when my brother and I started doing genealogical research. Sorry about not capitalizing your middle name correctly!

What pulled me in was the reference to Fortune. Then I discovered Dee Ann Buck was here and I had read several of her posts on Ancestry forums. Long story to short story is that I have no paper trial for my Fortune paternal line before 1847 but have high confidence from that time point to the present based on research and DNA testing.

Raymond DeVore and Yvette White show ups up on my matches on GEDmatch and at FTDNA. I was looking at the GEDmatch lists and then saw your name and wondered if it was the same Michael LeHew McKay that runs this message board.

Based on DNA matching, they are on my mother's side of the family because they are related to people I have X-chromosome matches. Probably my mother's side Nancy Craig, through her mother, Mamie Sprouse, since I've discovered other matches to Sprouses through DeVore and White.

But my research is still too basic in several areas, so I don't really know.

My brother and I are putting together a tree but haven't uploaded it anywhere (yet). We're trying to ensure accuracy before we start posting bogus data.

My GEDmatch ID is: T441560.

I appreciate you letting me visit.

I have become aware of possible Mitochondrial DNA sample of my great-grandmother Moslena Ball wife of Mathias H. Shipp. The person or persons involved have not directly come forward with this new information. It might be a clue as to the female emigrate ancestor of my grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp.

I will be seeking out new females who are willing to share this new kind of information. And I will be collecting primary sources for this particular line in NJ.I am only listing issue that might contain female blood lines.

Goal to see if DNA Letter "L" matches up with the documentation.

Starting with my great-grandmother:

1. BALL, Moslena b. 1877 VA, d. 1958 FL m. Mathias H. Shipp they had Noreen E. Shipp (two living persons) & Virginia Lee Shipp (I don't know if she had children or a daughter), her mother

2. EDWARDS, Mary Ella b. 1851 VA, d. 1934 DC m. John W. Ball they had Mary Alice Ball m. A. Rosenberger, Alma Watson Ball m. S. Shipp, Bessie A. Ball m. George P. Twombley, said Moslena Ball m. M.H. Shipp and Florence Shipp m. I.C. Wells, her mother.

Before I started doing genealogy this is the farest back in time "The Shipp Family History" went.

3. RICHARDS, Sophia Ann b. 1826 VA, d. c1866 VA m. Bushrod P. Edwards they only had the said Mary E. Edwards, no other female lines to be tested, her mother

4. FLEMING, Jane b. 1798, d. 1876, m. Thompson H. Richards had: said Sophia Ann Richards m. B.P. Edwards and Elizabeth Jane Richards m. T.A. Ramsey, her mother

5. HULETT, Hannah b. c1771 NJ?, d. VA m-1 Francis Marra, m-2 Thomas Fleming
She & Francis Marra believe had a daughter Margaret, she & Thomas Fleming had said Jane Fleming m. T.H. Richards and Mary Fleming who married Andrew Fleming, her mother.

6. LIPPINCOTT, Anna m. Thomas Hulett, she married after his death Wm. Walker removed to Hampshire Co. VA, according to Chancery Suit Filed in Frederick Co. VA had daughters: Winifred Hulett m. Joseph Berry, Sarah Hulett m. David Marney, daughter married to John Rankin & Hannah Hulett married Francis Marra & second to Thomas Fleming, her mother.

7. RAY, Genet b. c1705 NJ m. Daniel Lippincott d. 1741 NJ, I have a copy of his will, they had: Elizabeth Lippincott m. Francis White, Audria Lippincott & said Anna Lippincott m. in NJ to Thomas Hulett.

On the net a researcher has connected Genet RAY family with the Scottish Family of Robert Rea/Rhea who married Janet Hampton. Said Janet Hampton was the daughter of John Hampton of Scotland & Monmouth Co. NJ. I descend through a son of said John Hampton Sr.

Said Robert Rhea will filed in Monmouth Co. NJ named his children: David, Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaret & Mary.

I do not have the Mitochondrial DNA profile for Janet Hampton, could be "L" but I rather doubt it. In any case, the documents filed in Monmouth Co. NJ would show she was not the mother of said Genet Ray.

I am looking for mixed race mother of Genet Ray. This female blood line is showing "L". I believe I need to go back about three more generations.

If you know of another Mitochondrial DNA connected with the above blood line I would appreciate knowning about it directly. So I can spend my time collecting new information about this blood line.
I only have 1@ African Ancestry, but 23 & Me have asked me to enter my DNA sample with their African-American study. My cousin Jean McLeod Forney does have MtDNA L3bla but she does not appear to want me to have numbers associated with her sample so I can check if my paper trail is correct.

I will continue to seek out other female descends of my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp and her female relations.

If any one know of additional information about mtDNA L3bla I would welcome that information.

One of the test samples send in to The Bolling DNA Site came from the son of H.J. Bolen which clearly shows that the 50 years his father thought we were from the family Col. Robert Bolling of VA is false. Our numbers and we are part of Group 3

R1b1 13,24,14,11,11,12,12,12,14,13,13,39

Going back through H.J. Bolen's note I did find an interesting statement, which I do not understand why he did not follow up. Reeves Bolen made trips from Henderson Co. TN to Granville Co. NC to visit his mother and other relations. A trip that took months going by horse back.

The only family from NC that came to TN to visit was a "Cousin Lucy Clark and her four daughters".

Was she a Mangum or Bowling cousin? I found a marriage in Granville Co. NC between a Mary Jane Mangum on 6th Aug 1849 to Joseph Clark. An entry found Ancestry.com has a Mary Jane Mangum born 1818 died 1900, but her parents not listed. She was born the same year that Reeves Bowling was born.

I do not known enough about the various Mangum Family members associated with Reeves' mother Martha to know if this is the right persons or not.

I do not see any marriages between Bolling/Bowling etc with a Clark woman. So I am assuming at the moment that said Lucy Clark was from his mother's MANGUM family.
Lucy Clark would likely be Lucy Canaday/Kenaday married to Henderson Clark. She had a sister named Jemima Canaday who married Jessie Bolin (they are my GGGreat Grandparents. Jemima likely came from the Person NC area where she has been listed as married to Jese Bowling on 20 Aug 1819 in Granville, North Carolina. The spelling on the marriage bond is Jese Bowling in the body of the bond and then signed Jessey Boling. Jese Bowling and James Cozart are both bondsmen on the document. There were three Kenaday sisters, Jemima, Lucy and Elizabeth sometimes spelled Canaday.

Jemima Kinaday
1797–1868

BIRTH JAN. 27, 1797 • Person County North Carolina, USA
DEATH OCT. 19, 1868 • Stoddard County Missouri, USA

Jesse Bowling

DEATH 22 MARCH 1873 • Castor, Stoddard, Missouri, United States

In 1830 they lived in Henderson, TN. Their children were all born in Henderson TN save the eldest who was born in NC

Birth Year abt 1795
Birthplace North Carolina

The common ancestors of my Reeves Bolen who visited his kins in NC, John Bowling of MD/NC and wife Elizabeth one son Wm. Thomas who was the father of Jesse Bolin. I descend through son John Bowling who married Martha Mangum, their youngest son Reeves Bolen who removed to Henderson Co. TN.

Through Y marker DNA on file with Family Tree DNA I have been able to link my Henderson Co. TN back to the group in Granville Co. NC. This Boland/Bowling/Bolen emigrate Wm. Boland from Somerset Co. MD.

One member of this group found on Find A Grave in Somerset Co. MD, we visited the area last fall. A male member of this group has the same numbering pattern as GROUP THREE.

Lots and lots of false information linking my group with Col. Robert Bolling of early VA.

Hope the DNA company Living DNA will have a larger data base for GB. Is is what they claim.

Book was compiled in 1977 before DNA, now we have the tool of Family Tree DNA Project Bolling. Which clearly shows my group of Bolen of Henderson Co. TN belongs to GROUP THREE.

It was named for Benjamin Bowling because the majority of Y markers filed came from this line.

The group should be renamed William Bowland (Fh751) on page 234. He I believe was the emigrate lived and died in Somerset Co. MD. If you look at any map you can see how easy his male heirs removed on the "Bay" over to parts of VA or down to Granville Co. NC.

Just received another Ancestry Family Tree from kit "cyndimckenna1" 1 segment 6.2 her line from Wm. Bolling who married Amelia Randolph. Todd Bolen at the time of his book stated he could not find this couple among paper documentation. A male descend of this couple places them in GROUP THREE. And not linked to Group One as other have placed on line.

The Haplogroup for the various findings for men who have send in a Y marker test for Hollingsworth surname found on their site.

The Hollingsworth family associated with the Mackay/Mckay are the descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth R 1b1b2.

This means the person who claims descend from an Isaac Hollingsworth tested out as I l. He would not be a descendant of the said Valentine Hollingsworth.

There are other men who do not descend from Valentine Hollingsworth who send in test samples. You would have to e-mail the project manager of this group to see if he would give you further information.

If you have send in a sample under the surname Morris, you could have the e-mail address of the man who send in Hollingsworth sample give as I 1. Ask him for further information.

I believe I have posted here a message about Wm. Morris and his will, which acknownledged that a member of his household fathered a son with the maid (Missouri Miller). This child was known as Frank Melton Miller. His nephew Felix Melton fathered a child with Miss White and I believe a daughter. Charged in court with his action. Could be he fathered the son with the Morris maid. So if a man send in a Y marker test I have no idea if it would show Morris or Melton markers.

There were Hollingsworth living in Benton Co. TN, the location of this Morris household and I have no idea if one of them fathered a child with Miss Hollingsworth.
Is William’s will online? If so, what is his date of death?
Is the court charge for Felix online?
Thank you
