Found L.D.S. #306947 Orange Co. NC deed & minute books only date given 1817 for the above case. I do not think the Isaac Morris is my direct ancestor.

Jury finding Issac Morris guilty in "the bill of instrument" The record does not say what he was charged with "taken to the public whipping post 39 lashes on his bare back and cost of 100 pounds fee & cost".

This film is full of others in Orange Co. NC also whipped & fined for having "unlawful relations" resulting in children born "out of wedlock". I do not know if this is the case with Isaac Morris, or he did something else.

My Isaac Morris it is said was in TN in by this time, however the dates are not applied to each case file, just what was done each year.

There was a Isaac Morris who married in Orange Co. NC on 8th Jan 1812 to Nancy CHEEK. And I do not know if or how he is related to my group of Morris/Brown of Orange Co. NC.

Members of our McKay family married into the Cheek family, perhaps others know who this Isaac Morris was who was whipped.

With so much new information I am finding with Shipp & Snyder I have not found the time to post information in connection with my Morris & Brown families which I have found months ago.

I have not run Isaac Morris & Elizabeth Brown through Ancestory.com to see whats others have posted.
My quest to find a second Y marker kit to match with Reed Morris, could already be present IF I can figure out the parentage of Isaac Hollingsworth born 1808. No information as to where. This researcher is not on Y search so I can not directly e-mail him.

When Reed Morris told me about this Hollingsworth match, I would ASSUME the two researchers had work the line back to said Isaac Hollingsworth birth of 1808. In short, the two men knew they were not close distant cousin like 2nd or 3th. Had I been in on the discussion I would have asked various questions like location.

It has only been about 2 weeks that I have found my emigrate ancestor HENRY MORRIS. I will continue to seek out additional paper documentation and DNA confirmation. I would really like to place this Isaac HOLLINGSWORTH born 1808 among one of the branches of my Morris Family. The goal being this kit will confirm the numbers of Reed Morris.

Start in Gloucestershire, England hope link not over there, when we have Prince George Co. VA surname Hollingsworth is found 1st generations moved Brunswick Co. VA. Reed Morris' line removed to Orange Co. NC and then Henderson Co. TN. I am ASSUMING link with him and Hollingsworth researcher happened before his line removed from TN.

1st Generation: Henry Morris born c1695 in Gloucestershire, England lived in Prince George Co. VA died Brunswick Co. VA 1783. His will named three sons: Wm., Richard and Henry (Reed Morris Y marker). I have a Family Finder match with a man who descends from Richard Morris. I believe his line stayed in VA. I have no idea if the link could be with sons: Wm. or Richard. With luck future land deeds records might give me a clue.

2nd Generation: Henry Morris of Orange Co. NC. had three sons: Henry, Thomas and Richard. It is the son of Richard--Isaac Morris a court record shows some kind of misdeed. It would have been around 1808 really not sure.

3rd Generations: Isaac Morris married Elizabeth Brown died Henderson Co. TN. Isaac's brother removed to AL had a son Henry born 1810. I have no future record on this branch of the family. We have in TN members of this family fathering children "out of wedlock" but too late.

I would like to rule out Orange Co. NC place of contact then work back to Brunswick Co. VA.

I would to find another male descend of my Isaac Morris to send in a sample so we can say these numbers are set for this group of Morris. There are many groups of Morris.

Our-- I 1 13,22,14,9,13,15,11,14,16,12,11,29

What I will be looking for in the future is a sample send in showing a Morris living earlier in other parts of VA or NJ. I believe are the location where my Morris back into NC.

There are already samples posted which will show WHO we are not related.

I think the link with Hollingsworth took place in Orange Co. NC.

Family Finder kits send in by female or male descends of the other children of Isaac and Elizabeth (Brown) Morris will link us together by DNA.
I will be looking for more DNA confirmation for the children of Henry Morris who died 1783 Brunswick Co.VA. Two daughters from first wife had Martha Morris who married Mr. Hubbard and daughter Sarah who had a son named John Morris. Would assume if he had children used mother's surname Morris. Still hope to find Henry's first wife maiden name.

Second wife--my line is where I have three Family Finder Matches. Daughter Elizabeth married G. Bailey we know they had a daughter Holly who married Thomas Stith (family of Henry's business partner), son Wm. Morris married F. Rainey, mine line Henry married Frances.........? we have a Y marker from this line and should be the second Y marker, Mary Morris married Wm. Rainey through son Isham Rainey I have Family Finder "JSW" her tree called My Family Tree, daughter Susannah married Mr. Smith and Richard Morris is the Family Finder for "Buckner_David"

I have some of the above surnames on my Family Tree DNA Family Finder, but the researchers do not attach useful information to their sample so I can tell if belong to this Morris Family or not.

Researcher Doug Hollingsworth answered my message on Ancestry Message Board. You can read the entire message posted on Ancestry Message Board--Hollingsworth.

"The only Isaac Hollingsworth that I can find a record of who was born in 1808 lived in Screven Co. GA"

My Morris family group left Orange Co. NC for Henderson Co. TN after 1808. And far I know now did not live in GA. So our line of Henry Sr.(emigrate) to Henry Jr. of Orange Co. NC to Isaac of Henderson Co. TN. Did not father Isaac Hollingsworth.

"In theory, Isaac was the son of John C. Hollingsworth whose Hollingsworth ancestors by documentation were the most populous branch of the American Hollingsworth."

He is speaking of Valentine Hollingsworth and we have a link between Hollingsworth and our Mackay. There is a Family Tree DNA Project and plenty of kits going back to this group. Their "R" and our Morris "I"

"That brought to light an old family rumor (apparently true) that Isaac was not the child of John C. but of John's sister who had been impregnated by a man with the surname of Morris."

I do not think that Miss Hollingsworth was a member of the line of Hollingsworth & Mackay, but she could come from a line I have not traced.

Some of the information posted on Ancestry Tree is rather confusing. Some have a John Hollingsworth born 1792 as linked to our Hollingsworth/Mackay line. I think this is a different man. We are looking for the name of John C. Hollingsworth. Miss Hollingsworth would have been born about c1788. John C. and his Miss Hollingsworth's father born about c1750.

If anyone can shed more light on this couple, I would like to know.

It suits my purpose better that the location of this Hollingsworth and our Morris intersects in VA like one of the other sons of Henry Morris (the emigrate). I have not researched his others son to see if one of them removed to GA

I am presently looking at 19 films dealing with early Orange Co. VA land deeds and wills. Lots of bits and pieces of information which I can post records Mackay, Branson etc... Hope to find more in up coming months.

My film for Brunswick Co. VA will arrive next week. Hope to find out more about Henry Morris (the emigrate) and his sons. Like which one removed to Screven Co. GA !

Ancestry does not have earlier census for Screvin Co. GA on line. Found on 1820 census for that location Jesse Morris male 26-44. Believe the same man found on Find a Grave Jesse Morris born 1780 VA died 1826 Screvin Co. GA. He was fathering children about the same age group as Isaac Hollingsworth born 1808.

Men could be missed on the census for this location but he is the only one I can find.

Until I see different I have ruled out the male descend of Isaac Hollingsworth coming directly from our line from Henry Morris the emigrate.

I will be looking at son Wm. Morris born 1727 VA. Do not have information where his line lived.

Son Richard Morris (have Family Finder Match with his line) had a son named Henry M. Morris born 1763 VA died Hancock Co. GA. If related to above Jesse Morris I have no idea as of now.

From some of the information on Ancestry Tree either they have incorrect information posted or there was another Morris Family living in Screvin Co. GA. Male of that group would have to do a Y marker test to see if related to our emigrate Henry Morris of England died Brunswick Co. VA

I have order additional reports about my J 1 c 8 results. If they give any interesting information I will pass it along. The two matches I received notice "being a match" have not been helpful.

This results, however, has settle any thought this female line contained African-American or Native American.

The following surnames I will be trying to tract through legal & public records: starting with my grandmother:

1. Olive Odillion KING born 29 Oct 1906 (born on mother's birth date) Yuma, Carroll Co. TN died 22 Jun 1982 Silver Spring, Montgomery Co. MD m. Roy Dennis Hopgood, she had one sister who could have passed along the same Mitochondrial markers. She was the daughter of:

2. Dessie Green BOLEN b. 29 Oct 1885 Bowling Green, Warren Co. KY, died 4 Nov 1967 Alton, Madison Co. KY married Joseph Hulon King, she had sisters who could have passed along the same D.N.A. markers. She was the daughter of:

I have a picture (me, my mother, O.O. King & D.G. Bolen) of the four generations of this direct line. I have personal knowledge of all the women in this direct line and offical records.

3. Amanda E. MELTON b. 25 Aug 1853 Henderson Co. TN, d. 30 Aug 1888 Yuma, Carroll Co. TN m. Sion Monroe Bolen, she was the only daughter of:
I have a picture of Amanda E. with my gr-grandmother as an infant.

4. Frances L. MORRIS b. 1824 Henderson Co. VA, d. 13 Aug 1878 Henderson Co. TN married Cornelius Melton, she had a sister and they were the daughter of Elizabeth

5. Elizabeth BROWN b. 1780 in Orange Co. NC, d. after 1872 Henderson Co. VA, married Isaac Morris. For the 1870 Henderson Co. TN she was living with her daughter Frances L. (Morris) Melton and her granddaughter Amanda E. Melton. So my line is set for seven generations.

The records I have order and studied for Henderson Co. TN, I can't find a legal document naming the parents of said Elizabeth (Brown) Morris. If the records exist then I will have to find them in other counties in TN or in Orange Co. NC.

I am still looking for good documentation as to the children of Isaac Morris & said Elizabeth Brown.

I am aware others have posted information about my line on the "net" and a good amount of the information they do not give their sources.

In my quest to learn the true parentage of Elizabeth Brown born 1780 Orange Co. NC died Henderson Co. TN, paper documentation is some times unavailable and my Family Finder DNA and mtDNA have been great tools.

When I started years ago to search for her father, there were at least four different men of the right age group living in Orange Co. NC. I discounted first Joel Brown who came to Orange Co. NC from Bertie Co. NC then to eastern TN. Wrong location and his will did not name a Elizabeth (Brown) Morris.

After this time, entered my DNA tool.

I found two different John Brown in Orange Co. NC who made their marks in different ways. The John Brown's mark "B" came into Orange Co. NC from Bertie Co. NC. He would have been older father for my Elizabeth. There are plenty of other earlier generations of Browns in Bertie Co. NC. I do not think this group were Quakers.

The John Brown I have settled on make his mark with large "I" with a cross through it. He had a wife named Margaret who made her mark with "X", lands deeds state they were from Loudoun Co. VA.

Applying DNA to my paper pile, Loudoun Co. VA has living in the area: Odgen, Wakefield and Hiatt.

My mtDNA would be through Margaret, so I need her maiden name. I have received a second full mtDNA with another descend of the couple Margaret OGDEN & Charles McCurtin. Two different researchers descend from this couple's granddaughter Nancy Kelley to John Printz. One through daughter Melissa Printz and the other Alice Printz. No one appears to know the mother of said Margaret Ogden and different if she was born in "Northern Ireland" or NJ.

I have another full mtDNA match with a man who's female line goes back to Martha WAKEFIELD who married George Hiatt. I have Family Finder matches with researchers who have Hiatt but I have that family linked with my Snyder family. And I have interesting matches with Wakefield, but most I have other lines in common.

If I could find a marriage of a daughter of Martha Wakefield and George Hiatt into the Odgen family that would link together four of my mtDNA matches. There are about six or seven mtDNA kits whose lines female born c1800 in KY, OH, NC or SC could link back to these same families.

If my other cousins who descend from Elizabeth Brown could see if they have Family Finder Matches with Wakefield, Hiatt and Ogden that would be a huge help.

I did have a Family Finder Match on Ancestry with a George Washington Brown who could have been a brother to my Elizabeth and she did name a son George Washington Morris. The researcher has not answered my e-mail. This is the most interesting Family Finder Match I have found linked to my Brown Family of Orange Co. NC.

Hope something or someone will supply new information in paper form or DNA sample.

I have the emigrate female ancestor of my Elizabeth Brown. She was Elizabeth Fox born 1647 Ireland died 1755 DE married first to Wm. Cook who died at sea. She was member of the Society of Friends who removed from parts of England and Wales to present day Northern Ireland. The British Government want to hold down the Catholics of the area. Said Quakers did not get all they wanted from the government so they left in mass to parts of PA.

I am posting all future information on my Ancestry Tree Time Line.

It turns out I am a direct descend of Valentine Hollingsworth.

How are you connected to Hollingsworth? I know I come from 4 lines through my grandma Mary (Robinson) McKay.

all over US. As soon as I find the emigrate I am done with that line. Besides I am sure I can not tell you anything new about Hollingsworth!!.

However my mtDNA is the footprint of Grace Cook who married Thomas Hollingsworth. Sure you know the rest of it. Which means Hollingsworth researchers who descend from this couple I have supplied to them one of their DNA markers. We know Hollingsworth are "R".

Grace's daughter Hannah Hollingsworth married Wm. Dixon their daughter Hannah Dixon married George Martin their daughter Margaret Martin was disowned for marrying Wm. Brown of Orange Co. NC. They were members of Cane Creek MM like our distant Branson cousins. I have picked up the Moon Family which I had Family Finder Matches which were a mystery. Now they are not.

My ancestor Elizabeth Brown I think all of her lines were Quaker. I just discover this all last night at 10 pm. So will take me a lot of time to sort out all the lines. Now need to see if I can link some of the other mtDNA that go back to Ireland to see if I can find common female ancestor.

I do not know if I can "gift" you my tree if you do not have Ancestry account, it might not open. As I am going through my new films I am posting on Ancestry Time Line items which apply to each person.

Will take a lot of time. There were three different Brown Families who were Quakers who removed down to Orange Co. NC. The John Brown from Loudoun Co. VA married to a Margaret were Quakers from the group Nottingham MM. I had the WRONG couple, I realized my mistake has I was going over land deeds and census.

Wm. Brown who married Margaret Martin they were disowned by Cane Creek MM for the marriage. Wm. Brown had been disowned 1776 I have not discover the reason. I guess when Margaret Martin married later in 1778 Wm. was already out of the society, so she was kicked out too.

This group of Brown also members of Hopewell Friends, Frederick Co. VA. I have a lot of records to apply to each family group.

When I first saw your post I thought you were saying Ann Brown, wife of Robert Mackay Sr. But, now I see it was a different group of Browns. There are several Quaker Brown families as you mentioned. I know several were connected to the Meetings in Frederick County and Loudoun County.

As you might guess there are many different groups of Brown living just in VA. My main line of Brown, started by Thomas Brown came from Nottingham, England to PA then on to VA. It would appear there are three different Y marker from his male descends. His racial group R-M269.

My line--Thomas Brown & Ruth Large their son Wm. Brown and Hannah Moon to his son Wm. Brown & Margaret Martin.

It is Margaret Martin who is my mtDNA line.

Find a Grave has entries on all first tree generation and I have Quaker records for all the groups. Since I compiled in book form Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds and Wills I have all that information on hand. Hopewell Friends has information about this group of Brown as well has Hinshaw.

Then I started on this line I just knew my 2nd great grandmother Amanda E. Melton, none of her lines had been worked. This is before DNA. I was glad to have within my own control her DNA Footprint.

Hope in the future to get all of Elizabeth Brown's lines documented with paper and DNA matches. I have e-mail Fox Project to have my mtDNA sample send on to their site.

Information about Elizabeth Fox on line appears to be "confusion" among some of the researchers. I do not think she is from the same family as George Fox (Mr. Quaker).
