His will dated 1775 filed in Hampshire Co. VA/WV named three children: Andrew, Marthy & Ann. I have three DNA matches for my line through Andrew, two different sons out of five.

One for daughter Marthy and two for daughter Ann running through Pursley family of SC.

I will have to remember to ask them to check to see if they have matches with Cloud.
Noah who died in present day WV his son Andrew died in GA c1780. His wife's first name was Sarah. I have not found documented information as to her family name. I do have matches with various members of Cloud family.

Researcher "LM" descend from this couple's son Ephraim Hampton born 1737 died 1813 married Lamenda Harris. I descend from son Zachariah.

I have become aware of possible Mitochondrial DNA sample of my great-grandmother Moslena Ball wife of Mathias H. Shipp. The person or persons involved have not directly come forward with this new information. It might be a clue as to the female emigrate ancestor of my grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp.

I will be seeking out new females who are willing to share this new kind of information. And I will be collecting primary sources for this particular line in NJ.I am only listing issue that might contain female blood lines.

Goal to see if DNA Letter "L" matches up with the documentation.

Starting with my great-grandmother:

1. BALL, Moslena b. 1877 VA, d. 1958 FL m. Mathias H. Shipp they had Noreen E. Shipp (two living persons) & Virginia Lee Shipp (I don't know if she had children or a daughter), her mother

2. EDWARDS, Mary Ella b. 1851 VA, d. 1934 DC m. John W. Ball they had Mary Alice Ball m. A. Rosenberger, Alma Watson Ball m. S. Shipp, Bessie A. Ball m. George P. Twombley, said Moslena Ball m. M.H. Shipp and Florence Shipp m. I.C. Wells, her mother.

Before I started doing genealogy this is the farest back in time "The Shipp Family History" went.

3. RICHARDS, Sophia Ann b. 1826 VA, d. c1866 VA m. Bushrod P. Edwards they only had the said Mary E. Edwards, no other female lines to be tested, her mother

4. FLEMING, Jane b. 1798, d. 1876, m. Thompson H. Richards had: said Sophia Ann Richards m. B.P. Edwards and Elizabeth Jane Richards m. T.A. Ramsey, her mother

5. HULETT, Hannah b. c1771 NJ?, d. VA m-1 Francis Marra, m-2 Thomas Fleming
She & Francis Marra believe had a daughter Margaret, she & Thomas Fleming had said Jane Fleming m. T.H. Richards and Mary Fleming who married Andrew Fleming, her mother.

6. LIPPINCOTT, Anna m. Thomas Hulett, she married after his death Wm. Walker removed to Hampshire Co. VA, according to Chancery Suit Filed in Frederick Co. VA had daughters: Winifred Hulett m. Joseph Berry, Sarah Hulett m. David Marney, daughter married to John Rankin & Hannah Hulett married Francis Marra & second to Thomas Fleming, her mother.

7. RAY, Genet b. c1705 NJ m. Daniel Lippincott d. 1741 NJ, I have a copy of his will, they had: Elizabeth Lippincott m. Francis White, Audria Lippincott & said Anna Lippincott m. in NJ to Thomas Hulett.

On the net a researcher has connected Genet RAY family with the Scottish Family of Robert Rea/Rhea who married Janet Hampton. Said Janet Hampton was the daughter of John Hampton of Scotland & Monmouth Co. NJ. I descend through a son of said John Hampton Sr.

Said Robert Rhea will filed in Monmouth Co. NJ named his children: David, Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaret & Mary.

I do not have the Mitochondrial DNA profile for Janet Hampton, could be "L" but I rather doubt it. In any case, the documents filed in Monmouth Co. NJ would show she was not the mother of said Genet Ray.

I am looking for mixed race mother of Genet Ray. This female blood line is showing "L". I believe I need to go back about three more generations.

If you know of another Mitochondrial DNA connected with the above blood line I would appreciate knowning about it directly. So I can spend my time collecting new information about this blood line.
I know from legal records filed in Frederick Co. VA that my ancestor Hannah Hulett who married Thomas Fleming in Frederick Co. VA. Records stated that her father was Thomas Hulett and his widow married Mr. Walker and removed to WV.

I have legal record 23 Dec 1755 Monmouth Co. NJ between Thomas Hulett and Anna Lippincott. Her parentage known and working on his.

Do to several DNA matches with other descends of Richard Lippincott I am sure I have proven that Thomas of Hulett of NJ removed to Frederick Co. VA where he died. I have the names of some of his other children and looking for DNA kits filed by them.

Researcher " somtvedt" descend of Richard Lippincott through his son Freedom.

Found Ancestry DNA site sample given by "G.G" his line from Jeremiah Lamkin born 1595 London, England died 1660 Surry Co. VA wife Martha (1600-1640) his son Thomas Lamkin born 1620 died 1665 wife Eleanor Lusher.

We share a 10th gr-grandfather (Jeremiah). I descend from his brother:

1. George Lamkins (1647-1713) m. Hannah Cox their son
2. George Lamkin (1680-1727) m. Jane Ashton
3. Eleanor Lamkin (1725- ) m. her cousin George Cox
4. Sarah Cox (c1750...?) m. John Rust
5. Lemuel Rust (c1775-c1849) m. Nancy Cooke
6. Dawsey Rust (1805-c1850) m. Noah Hampton
7. Winnie Ridley Hampton (1830-1901) m. Wm. Presley King

There were my 3rd great-grandparents
This bit of DNA confirms the blood lines of my great-great-grandfather Hansford D. King. Researcher "skaayf" descends from George Cox and Eleanor Lamkin through their daughter Elizabeth. I descend through another daughter Sarah who married John Rust and they parents of Lemuel Rust.

Some of my cousin have picked up old and incorrect information about the parentage of Lemuel Rust. This DNA confirms the paper documentation.

Researcher "boulderboy75" descend of another son of the emigrate George Dawkins (1655-1727) through son Wm. born 1683. The other distant cousin from my line George to George Jr. This is more evidence of my line of Edwards of Fauquier Co. VA. Part of my grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp gene pool.
Researcher "S.G." descend of George Dawkins and Mary Warwick through son George. I descend from daughter Mary Dawick who on paper we know married Benj. Edwards. Looking for more paper documentation that their son was Gerrard Edwards. At the moment I just have tax records for Fauquier Co. VA.

This is the second DNA match that I have Dawkins ancestry. It could only have come from the above couple.

Still hope to find out more about the siblings of Gerrard Edwards and more of his children.

At least 11 researchers kits show common DNA material. A number of researcher's results were private so their could be more. I know a few on found on Family Tree DNA.

At least one reseacher takes the family back into England three more generations. Since no documentation is found I will start with my known ancestor:

1. John Rudd b. c1678 some say Yorkshire, England, d. 1749 Chestfield Co. VA. Wife Avis Whitaker. Some have listed her parentage, again no documentation given?

2. Joseph Rudd b. c1712 Henrico Co. VA, d. 1779 Mecklinburg Co. VA, Wife Wilmouth..........?

3. Wm. Rudd b. c1751 Mecklenburg Co. VA, d. c1779 same location, wife name unknown to me.

4. Wm. Henry Rudd b. 1772 Mecklenburg Co. VA, d. 1853 Warren Co. NC, Wife Sarah.........? name from land deed, another wife mentioned in his will to be buried by his wife Emily Thomas.

5. John D./Elijah D. Rudd b. 1805 Granville Co. NC, d. c1868 Morganfield, Union Co.KY m-2 Nancy Rogers. I believe to escape his creditors in NC he removed to KY and changed his first name from John to Elijah. All three of his marriage records found in NC as John D. For the 1850 census who will find his children were living in different household than with him. Guess a matter of money.

6. Samuel Alexander Rudd b. 14 Feb 1837, d. 8 Jul 1882 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, Wife Mary Ann Taylor, their graves on "Fine a Grave". I have a picture of her

7. Alice/Allie Rudd b. 29 Sep 1867 Morganfield, Union Co.KY, d. 24 Jul 1947 East Prairie, Mississippi Co. MO, Husband Henry H. Hopgood.

These were my gr-grandparents. Line back 10 generations.
Researcher "cedeanna57" descend from couple Joseph Rudd and wife Elizabeth Wilmouth through their son Harwood who was the father of Herrod Rudd.

Just logged into today on Ancestry DNA a researcher dskrams950 is granddaughter (I believe) of Nolie E. King who was the sister of my great-grandfather Joseph H. King. They being the children of Hansford D. King.

She would be my 2nd cousin one removed. She would be the closest distant cousin, so far, except for James F. Hopgood.

With all these 1000's of matches I have received through Ancestry DNA & Family Tree DNA I really do not understand people saying they have taken the test and received no matches or little information.
Researcher "sharrymon" descend of Charnock Cox and wife Mary Presley she through son Charnock. My line through son George Cox b. 1701. This bit of DNA travels down to his daughter Sarah Cox to her son Lemuel Rust to his daughter Dawsey Rust to her daughter Winnie R. Hampton to her son Hansford Duncan King.

He has DNA matches with King researchers on his father's side and on his mother: Hampton, Cossart/Cozart, Bumpass, Rust, Cox, Lamkin, Rucker (lots) Turner and their female lines. All ending up in Hansford D. King, thus proving his lines of descend to all his ancestors. It is not good enough proving your lines of descends with just paper !!

Found on the 1850 Shenandoah Co. VA census dated 26 Sep the household of

John Shipp 49, collier, Elizabeth 50, George W. 17, Harriet 15, Mary 13, Louisa 12, Elizabeth 10, ANNA 7, Wm. H. 5.

For some reason I can't find John on the 1860,1870 or 1880 census. He was married the second time 1871 in Rockingham Co. VA and I have found him listed on Non-Population Schedule 1850-1880 on Elk Run in Rockingham Co. VA.

By 1860 his five eldest children married, but Elizabeth, Anna & Wm.H. could still living with him.

His youngest child according the 1850 census Wm. H. Shipp married 1867 in Shenandoah Co. VA.

I do not know what happened to Elizabeth Shipp, but Anna I now believe was the living with Wm. H. Shipp 1900 Fauquier Co. VA census "Nansey K. Shipp born Nov 1848 age given as 54 across out with 51. I believe should read Nov 1842 age 58. Most likely died before 1910 census.

John Shipp & his wife Elizabeth Lewin had

1. Sarah Shipp b. 23 Sep 1825 Plumb Run, Hampshire Co. VA/WV m. 13 Apr 1854 at Jonathan Shipp's house in Rockingham Co. VA to Jacob H. Grimm, d. 7 Sep 1897. Arrington's book has a copy of her marriage record signed by said John Shipp as his daughter.

2. George W. Shipp b. 1833 VA m. Sarah A.........? can't seem to find them on later census.

3. Harriet Shipp b. 1835 VA, m. 2 Aug 1851 Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co. VA to Joseph Scothern.

4. Mary Shipp b. 1837 VA m. 3 Apr 1854 to George W. Grimm. Arrington's book as a signed note by her father said John Shipp for permittion for their marriage.

5. Louisa Shipp b. 23 Mar 1839 VA m. 22 Apr 1856 to Thomas H. Becks, d. 5 May 1902, buried Mill Creek Cemetery, Rockingham Co. VA. Arrington book has a copy of their marriage bond with note from her father John Shipp

6. Elizabeth Shipp b. 1840 VA the only record I have about her listed on 1850 Shenandoah Co. VA census.

7. Nansey K. "Anna" Shipp born Nov 1842, most likely the same woman living with her brother Wm. H. Shipp for 1900 Fauquier Co. VA, not listed with the family member 1910. I did not see her grave next to her father in Midland Cemetery, Fauquier Co. VA and not listed in compiled book by Baird. I do not think the death registry cover the years she might have died.

8. Wm. Harvey Shipp b. 27 Feb 1844 Columbia Furnace, Shenandoah Co. VA, m. 29 Aug 1867 Shenandoah Co. VA to Priscilla Ann Bridges, d. 5 Dec 1909 Lee District, Fauquier Co. VA, buried in Midland Cemetery, Fauquier Co. VA.
The "Family Story" was he was the baby of the family. His mother would have been 44 year of age at the time of his birth.

I will continue to look for more information about John & Elizabeth (Lewin) Shipp and their children.
I have been looking for the marriage of my John Shipp to a Elizabeth.......? Information now on the net that he was John Shipp who married a Elizabeth Lewis in Shenandoah Co. VA is just wrong. That couple was a John Shipe who married Elizabeth Lewin. I have no idea who make the mistake placing this on the net, but I think it was my grandfather Walter E. Shipp guessing and that was put on the net by my father.

In any, two different couples. The marriage on net that took place in Allegany Co. MD 26 Jan 1824 with John Shipp (sic) and Elizabeth Cox fits the time period that I am looking. Said Elizabeth has on census she was born in VA. Hampshire Co. VA on the line with this location in MD. Godfrey family did removed from Frederick Co. MD to Hampshire Co. VA/WV for a time. By this time period my group of Shipp were living in Shenandoah Co. VA, said John could have returned to the family former neighborhood to pick up his bride.

I will have to researcher Cox in this part of the world. Lots of men I am sure.

Found Ancestry DNA project researcher "FredPatter44" descend of John Mangum & wife Frances S. Bennett through son Henry

I descend through their son Wm. We are 8th cousins
Researcher "slesfam45" descend of couple John Mangum and wife Frances Bennett through daughter Mary Agnes Mangum who married John Langston. We now have four researcher who claim this line.

This bit of DNA goes down to me through my great-grandmother Dessie Green Bolen (wife of Joseph H. King).

Since Ancestry does not break down DNA by chromosome I can not see if we are actually double distant cousins.

On paper she also descends from Richard Stockton and wife Abigail Bloomfield through son Richard. I have a double line of descend from this couple one line goes to Elizabeth Wright who married Jacob McKay Jr. who also descend of said couple. Their son Jacob McKay III has double line of Richard Stockton.

I am also interested in her Taylor and Edwards families.

This bit of DNA goes down to my grandfather Roy D. Hopgood.
Researcher "anniescottrogers" descends from Willis Rogers son of Dicy Kittrell and husband Joseph Rogers. I descend from daughter Nancy Rogers who married John D. Rudd. This bit of DNA goes into the blood lines of Samuel A. Rudd. I also have other DNA matches with his other families: Rudd, Rogers, Kittrell and Durant.
